There was an old recording from Otto von Bismarck found in the US. I wonder if StereoTool could enhance the sound of this old recording, so the voice is better isolated and understandable? http://clip.dj/#v/czko31-6O8I |

Wooh, THAT's OLD! You could potentially improve the quality a bit with Stereo Tool, but I think there must be software specialized at doing this. Basically the fading hiss background sound is fairly repetitive so it must be possible to at least reduce it a lot without hurting the audio too much. But not with Stereo Tool -it's made to handle a stream of audio, not to (probably with manual input) reconstruct a single file. |

lol - I hoped for some insight in how to use ST to maybe even improve such a recording. Historically it's an interesting recording, because as far as it is known, this is the first time the voice of Otto von Bismarck can be heard publically. So far the people only know him from history books and images. |

Well, the only thing would be the noise gate, but it's definitely not designed to handle THIS type of noise. Except for that, chances are that the rest of the processing will only increase the softer sounds (ie. the noise!) compared to the rest, so I would definitely use something else for this. (It's not that I couldn't make something to improve it, but that would be a completely different program) |

Might want to look at trying Wavepad Masters Edition. That program might work. Haven't really used it to clean up an audio file though, but does have several tools that might be able to do so if used properly. |
