Post subject:  Preamp versus Loudness?

Hi everyone,

Is the Loudness feature.. classed as a preamp or a postamp?

I'm needing a little more loudness than the Postamp can provide.. I'm cleaning up some vocal tracks.. and my current theory is that post amp is better than pre amp for minimizing arftefacts as the post amp works on the already processed (enhanced and cleaned up audio) rather than the unprocessed audio (unenhanced audio containing artefacts. I'm new to advanced audio editing.. so I'm not 100% sure, but it does seem logical... you would not want to amplify the artefacts going into the process chain.. right.. unless you absolutely had too?

I know the loudness slider can use a lot of CPU, but that's not an issue for me thankfully :)

Hello and welcome,

If you set Post Amp higher than 1.00x (0 dB), you'll get clipping, which causes pretty horrible artifacts. Loudness does roughly the same thing as Post Amp, but without causing clipping distortion (it still clips, but it hides the distortion in other sounds).

So if I understand your question correctly I think you need Loudness here.
