Something went horribly wrong with the license server tonight. Basically, the list of valid licenses became incomplete due to a disk full error, but a flag that indicates that it is complete was still set. I had built in protection against networking errors, but I overlooked disk full errors. A few people who started Stereo Tool tonight may have noticed this. I've sent an email to those who might have been affected, and I will immediately take measures (fix the bug in the script) to make sure that this can never happen again. Right now everything is working properly again, if you are affected by this issue (if you are, you should have received an email), just restart Stereo Tool and everything will be ok again. My apologies for the inconvenience. |

You have a PM. (And in short, no you don't need an internet connection.) |

Could you explain the process here though? From your original posting, it seemed as though there is a "phone home" component. I too was concerned about the ability for registered options to work if there was no internet connection, but since my preset is designed to only use the maximum non-registered loudness and does not use the declipper, I didn't see where it would impact me, but I'd like to know in the event I do push loudness up some or use the declipper.Thanks... |

Ok, I'll answer *very* briefly then: (don't want to go in too much detail here, I don't want to make things easier for people who try to crack Stereo Tool): If you have no internet connection there's no problem. If my server is down, there's also no problem. |

The logical person in me (I guess I'll call this my "inner Spock") causes me to ask:If there is no problem, then why did people need to restart, and why did it merit a mention? |

Because something else went wrong, and it was something that I overlooked. It worked without any issues for a few years, but last week a situation occurred that I had not anticipated. And that *did* cause issues. |

I understand and respect the desire to protect intellectual property, but if there is "no problem" that is "cured" by restarting, then by definition there was a problem of some sort.If you don't want to discuss it at all, then that's fine, but I think that sharing any information at all, such as this thread, invites questions (IMO, valid questions), and if you are not prepared to answer them, a statement of "there are no problems" comes across like this: ![]() |

Maybe I should not have posted it at all (maybe I should just delete this whole thread then?). Anyway, the problem has been solved, and the people who were affected were informed by mail. @DUB<^>STEP: It was a disk on a VMware image, size was about 30 GB I think. Not much anyway. |
