The Dutch "Agentschap Telecom" is increasing fines for illegal FM broadcasts from 2500 to 4500 euro. They are also going to come after sponsors and people who provide a location for broadcasters, like pubs. If a pirate caused disturbances (to other stations etc.) the fine can be increased upto 45000 euro. According to press reports, there are currently about 2000 FM pirates in the Netherlands. At my country I got a 150 000 Euro Fine for a 300 meter Pirate FM Broadcast with a 7 dollar FM Transmitter and Stereo Tool, but I managed to get out clear in court (for about 2500 euro lawyer costs) And we have very few FM pirates, there are almost none in the big cities. And if there is an Pirate, it usually operates at 50 meters coverage, and for 2-3 hours, one night at best. So Netherlands is VERY tolerable for FM pirates. Here, if you even try, and a good neighbor tells the regulation about it, you get a 15 000 Euro fee for a broadcast that leaves out your apartment and 50 000+ up to 150 000 Euro for broadcasts above 50 meters. This applies if you don't jam anyone, if you jam any station (even distant ones) - you get the maximum fine. Heck! They charge 1 euro per listener for Internet-only broadcast, that is limited only to the country, and you can't get any listeners outside it. (yes, here YOU need license for that, called in Europe Loyalty Rights fee) |

As I told you - with VERY good lawyer, he was able to convince the court that I wasn't broadcasting at that moment, and due to lack of evidence, I got out clear. |
