Preamp Gain is currently +31.93db max. It would be good to have about another +10db gain range (~+40-45db max)

We have a nominal facility level of -20dbfs, giving us 20db of headroom. Running into ST at that level, we find that we could do with more Pre-Amp gain to drive the AGC section.

I'm planning a complete GUI design, I'll take this one into account (please remind me if I forget!).

For now, you can 'hack' around it by opening the STS (or INI) file and manually changing the Pre Amp value. Just make sure not to click the slider afterwards.

I'll do that. Thanks Hans !

Hans, manually editing the preamp gain works great, thanks. Two questions when using an input reference nominal level of -20dbfs;
- what is the input stage processing bit depth of ST? Using a facility wide nominal level of -20dbfs, we have a bit depth of 24 bit, which comfortably allows for that.
- Will Declipper function correctly with default settings at that nominal level? It's difficult to see action on the ST declipper/input level metering when feeding -20dbfs.
Thanks!

May i ask why so low input signal? I guess it's some digital input, but -10 is more then enough to keep digital clipping away.
For ST maybe better idea is "Gain" ;)

Hi Bojcha. We use Axia IP audio routing hardware, pc sound card drivers and studio control surfaces. www.axiaaudio.com

It is a 24 bit 48 KHz standard with a nominal audio level of -20dbfs (with metering standard/ballistics used in this part of the world). Once set, the Axia Element/Radius/IQ audio level metering assumes/displays fixed metering based on a -20dbfs nominal level. I can't recall where on their site/manuals I saw it, but they do discuss that 20db of headroom is a good idea. It makes sense to me - with 24 bit depth available facility wide, to be on the conservative side when setting available headroom. I have seem some staff do crazy things with levels... Aaron.

Hmm i didn't know that so low level Axia is using. I also have AD converter with -8dB input and i never seen problems even if 'they" set higher level at mixer. I'm using 48kHz/16bit., Maybe i'll try what will happen with 24bit, but i think it will be no big difference.
Anyway 'gain' sounds like good idea :)
