SORRY IF THIS IS IN THE WRONG SECTHON
before I start don't know if this is a stereotool problem or an asio problem.
i am running windows 7 x64.

THIS IS A COMPLICATED ISSU AND IS NOT EASY TO EXPLANE.

im having problems with asio hanging, it does not happen all the time it just seems sometimes when you start the pc its fine, but other times it hangs with a red ! instead of the green play symbol you get when its working.

when this happens the only thing that will work ( sometimes ) is to restart the pc. this does not allays work its a 50 50 thing.
and I don't want to have to reboot just to get asio to work again..I don't know what to do about it.

I think this has something to do with windows 7 x64 because it does not happen on 32bit.
and my laptops is a 32bit os and it does not happen...

one thing I HAVE to use asio for sound sync in game and videos.

hope you get when you i mean.

Ok, but is it an ESI Juli@? It wouldn't surprise me (I've even had some blue screens with those drivers  ).

Stereo Tool doesn't even know if it's running at 32 or 64 bits, so if the behavior is different, it's most likely caused by a difference in the driver.

Now it's still possible that Stereo Tool just handles things incorrectly, which causes issues with one driver and not with another.

ok..
it does NOT happen on 32bit OS that much I have found out.

I have installed on my system...

virtual audio cable..
asio .. from (http://www.asio4all.com/)
and of course stereo tool.
that's the 3 main things I need.

I have been testing this on laptop and on pc...

laptop..win7 32bit..no hang.. (laptop win7 64bit sometimes it hangs..50% of the time on start)

pc win7 32bit no hang... ( pc win7 64bit sometimes hangs. same 50% of the time on start.)

one thing to note i don't get a bsod when this hangs.

i'm starting to think this has nothing to do with stereo tool.
when I go on to the asio setting control panel when it hangs, if i unclick vital audio cable stereo tool starts to work but there is no sound..as expected as I have unclickd the sound source.

but this is a hard thing to explane and I don't know what to say, you'd need to see it in action to see what I mean.

one more thing I don't know what ESI Juli@? is??

PC SYSTEM SPECS.
WINDOWS 7 X64
CPU QWOD CORE. INTEL I7 930 -4000MHZ 1.28V < no that's not a joke)
RAM ...6GB
MOTHERBOARD....ASUS RAMPAGE ll EXTREME .
SOUND CARD..SUPREME FX -FI ( the sound card come with the motherboard)
GPU GTX480.
HDD . ONE 80GB SSD AND A 2TB WD DRIVE.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AND THE LAPTOP..
OS WIN7 32BIT ( was tested with win7 64)
LAPTOP NAME......MSI GT640 . QWOD CORE 2.8 GHZ CPU
RAM...4GB

Answer is clear. 64bit OS is problem.

yes like you say must be a 64bit problem..I don't think there is anything I can do about it,
but it does work when it feels like it.

the thing is once its running its fine no hiccups, but getting it to run in the first place is a pain.

If something is causing a BSOD, then it's bad coding, plain and simple. Doesn't have anything to do with the OS as far as I know, because no bugs with Windows 64bit audio subsystem is currently reported (or already fixed, according to MSDN Driver site, and the Knowledge Base) in Vista or 7.

It is possible that ST might be accessing something incorrectly, true. But I still stand by it being bad coding in the driver, that it doesn't properly deal with or just ignore bad/incorrect requests by ANY software that requests them. Or... the bug is something in the driver itself, which seems more likely.

Proper coding to an API spec deals with potential unknown problems, instead of simply crashing. ;)
