Hello everyone, For those who don't know me yet: I'm Patrice, not a broadcast professional, just a long-time radio and sound enthusiast working on a personal web radio project called LOOM Radio, based in the Pays d'Iroise, in Brittany (France). This project is also a way for an adventure around two lifelong passions : radio and sound. LOOM's positioning, to set the scene: I like to describe it as an "Élégant Groove Radio". Not a rigid clock-based format, but a "sensation" radio: a wide, sometimes surprising music selection (elegant groove, warm pop, refined Celtic touches, plus a more latino/house flavor on weekend evenings), but always coherent through texture and mood rather than a single genre. The sound I'm aiming for is probably what brings me here most often: I want something immersive, textured and elegant, with good precision, a wide but natural stereo image, and above all comfortable long-term listening — the kind of radio you can leave running all evening without listening fatigue. I'm going for a sound that's dense yet lively, detailed, enveloping, with a pleasant texture and a natural sense of depth. Not a sound that "shouts," more one that wraps around you. One small quirk of my workflow: all the tuning is deliberately done on inexpensive consumer multimedia speakers (TRUST brand), not studio monitors. The idea is that LOOM should sound good even on the most modest playback system, not just on high-end gear. I'm still refining the processing in Stereo Tool, and every bit of outside feedback I get here teaches me something I'd stopped hearing myself after spending too long with my ear glued to it. So if you have a couple of minutes to listen and tell me honestly what you feel — positive or critical — it would mean a lot. Thank you in advance for your time and your ears. I'm gonna side with Dale Sharp here. Hope I don't come across as overly-critical by saying this as you said you are a novice at this, but um... it's just way too shrill from 6kHz up. I had to lower everything from 6k onward by over 8dB, and even then the high-end still sounds sloshy and grungy. Too much compression, too much limiting. There's a reason why recording studios use the kind of speakers and headphones they do. It provides finer detail resolution as well as a flat frequency response to best discern the median which best translates to as many systems as possible. I do all of my profile development work on studio monitors and headphones. I'm sorry to say this but your TRUST gaming speakers just won't cut it if you truly are serious about this. |
