Interesting. Do you know what the buffer bars look like when this happens?
Sometimes on my home PC, when I add or remove audio devices (for me, it's when I plug in a controller that has a headset jack), I'll have to restart the audio devices from within Stereo Tool (or close and relaunch) to get the sound back to normal.
There's a button in the Output (click the > to expose more settings) sections called More Output Settings, in each the FM and HD outputs. Here, you can try to enable "restart on buffer issues" or mess with some of the other settings here. Just don't forget to back up your settings before accidentally making it worse.
