An other request to reduce the delay was to send directly EDI format (with stream output) of STT

Proposal - increase maximum uMPX delay from 14sec to, say 20sec if it does not have other negative impacts. Reason: In UK stations many stations simulcast on FM and DAB. A common way of feeding DAB is simply to transcode the station's webstream (or a dedicated higher quality stream) to the format used on DAB. We are currently using transcoding and the maximum FM delay available in uMPX (14sec) is not long enough to match the delay over DAB - this will consist encoding delay for the webstream, buffer delay, transcoding delay and delay of encoding and transmission and decoding of the DAB signal. This means that listeners in DAB<->FM handover regions experience many audio skips, possibly making them turn off or over to another station. 20 sec might cover the majority of use cases? |
