Whenever I (try to) use values for 'max stereo level' and/or 'width' smaller than 1.00 (e.g. 0.90) I hear in some songs bass artifacts.

Is this normal (unavoidable) ?

Or could this be a bug ?

Good songs to hear these artifacts are the intros of
"The Rolling Stones - Angie"
and
"The Mamas & Papas - Dream A Little Dream'

Sorry, Hans.
Maybe I am the first person in the Stereo Tool history (?) that wants to use values smaller than 1.00 for 'max stereo level' or 'width' ?

Wowowowowow!

I wanted to make this post before YOU :)))

I also like stereo levels lower than 1.0 becuse this is one of the secrets for high loudness in FM broadcast and better mid frequencies in ALL SONGS.

i agree that stereo enhancer needs work!!

Ah, this problem has always been there, especially for low latency settings. It is caused by the fact that changing the stereo image is actually a non-phase linear action, but I'm treating it as if it isn't.

I've heard this too on one or two tracks, but it generally only affects old ('60s/'70s) music where the bass is different on the left and the right channel. Which is normally not the case for newer music (playing it back this way isn't even possible anymore if there's a separate - center - bass speaker).

The easiest solution for this is probably to NOT process the lowest frequencies. Or to just make them mono the old fashioned way (which causes audio cancellation if there are anti-phase issues).
