At least with default settings. I could be doing something wrong.

I'm still on version 8.34. (I didn't notice anything regarding Dehummer in change log for 8.40.)

Here's an example of hum and noise (maybe I'm wrong with calling this hum?) from a recent file I had to edit:

Noise_Hum_Example.wav

(I looped it a few times and kept it at 16 bit.)

This is what I did:

- Turn on Dehummer

- Click "Capture" to on

- Play hum

- Click "Capture" to off

- Play hum again; it should be gone, but, it's only partially gone. Here's my result, with just Dehummer in Basic Operating mode: Noise_Hum_Processed.wav

Am I not using it correctly? Are setting adjustments required for this?

I ended up using Soniqware SG-1 instead. :(

I thought maybe it might be more focused on just hum types of noise, but the pop-up help tip for the Dehummer says it can remove all forms of noise, such as a high pitched tone, and a hiss. :oops:

It looks like it just lowered the level. Since the .wav is only noise, the expected result of the bottom waveform should be complete silence.

I just tried it here and it's removing much more than in your screen shots. The hum is completely gone, the hiss is still partially there (and that's on purpose - removing more would risk introducing artifacts and removing actual sounds). If you want to force it to do more anyway increase the 'Average multiplier' slider.

Here's what I'm seeing. First is the original, 2nd is Dehummer with default settings, 3rd is Dehummer with Average set to 200%.

Did you clear the Dehummer first? If not that might explain what happened.

Here's a zoomed-in image, original vs. Dehummer with default settings. So you can see that the hum is really completely gone. The hiss is reduced as well.

I guess I'm just used to other plugins (or even Audacity) where if you sample noise then remove it, on noise only you get a completely flat line. You do get spectral side effects though, so I'm guessing that's why it isn't removed as "completely" in Stereo Tool. But the 200% setting helps! (SG-1 has a green "Spectral" knob to help filter this out.)

In my screenshots it's zoomed way in vertically in Audacity, I fear I made the scale a little more exaggerated than it should be for the "removed" screenshot. :oops:

I *really* hate those "spectral sounds". But, you can always put the 'Noise gate' after the Dehummer to remove more noise without those spectral effects. It will not remove everything but it will reduce the hiss further.

I have an issue with hum on only the right channel being broadcast on FM.

How can I record and remove this?

Hm, I'd have to check to make sure, but the Dehummer should treat the channels separately. I'm not too sure that it does though.

Edit: Just checked. Yes, it works per channel! So the Dehummer should do exactly what you're looking for.
