Hi Hans, I dont know if Im looking in the wrong place but I cant find the min PC specs for Stereo Tool 4.22 standalone. Ive just attempted to get it working on a spare PC I just built out of bits I had, but it maxes out the processor and stutters constantly on FM radio settings. System at present comprises:- Intel Celeron 2.66Ghz (P4 Socket 478 version) single core 2 GB Ram Win2k It also has a graphics card so the processor doesnt have to handle graphics, but its running Zara Radio and virtual audio cable at the same time. The PC is intended only to run this as I have another which does everything else. In task manager Stereo Tool is running at around 50,000K, processor 100%. If this PC specs are insufficient, I think I have enough bits to build a P4 dual core, but the cores only run at 2.53Ghz but with a higher system bus speed. |

hello Bertie, StereoTool works better on Intel Processors except celerons, especially if you use FM output. For safe configuration i recommend Intel Dualcore CPU, e5x00 is enough, 2x512 or 2x1gb memory, stable motherboard (gigabyte p35, p43, p45 series), good quality soundcard... Anyway, new version of StereoTool will be ready soon, you can see progress here, viewtopic.php?f=16&t=853&start=580 New version will have much lower Cpu usage, Lower memory usage, better quality and more ... |

Hi Bojcha, I didnt know that! If I get a chance, I'll search out the other bits I have. I just gave a P4 newly built dual core PC to my youngest son yesterday - but he wont swap! Thanks |

What Bojcha said  But really try the new version, CPU load will be less than half of the CPU load of version 4.22, and the sound quality is better. On a P4 (especially older batches) v4.22 easily maxes out (especially if Loudness is used). I haven't tested it yet (I have a spare P4 laying around here as well, I'll do some tests later on when the new version is finished to see how well it works), but I expect the new version to run without difficulties on a P4 @ 2.66 GHz. |

Just had a real result! I managed to dig out a new Gigabyte motherboard and a Core Duo p4. When I was assembling it, I was looking for some RAM in the cupboard when I came across an old P4 3.06 478 that I had taken out of an old computer where the motherboard fried. Knowing this I thought there may well be a possibility that the processor was dead too, but I thought what the hell, I cant use the already assembled PC the way it is, so I put it in - and it runs great! Stereo Tool 4.22 runs at around 75% on FM settings now. Im looking forward to the new version. Many thanks for all your hard work Hans, it is really appreciated, as is the rapid response to my original question. I hope this thread will help others who need to know what the min specs should be. It certainly helped me. PS edit: As you were. Stereo Tool 4.22 was set to low quality with the new processor, on setting it to normal the 3Ghz P4 maxed out as well. Oh well. New version beckons. Carry on the good work! |

Ok right. Bojcha, thanks for posting the link to the other thread. Ive now downloaded the beta3 version of the new Stereo Tool and Im very impressed. Everything said is true, especially the increase in the quality of the output, the whole signal has improved considerably. Hans I agree with what you say about the highs in the signal - they are far more precise, and I think they add real definition and balance to the output, very impressive, especially using the material I use which has been very carefully remastered in wav format. I find it really helps even a good processor like Stereo Tool to have a really well balanced and carefully defined input signal, the processor then doesnt have to work so hard and very small tweaks can really help improve the output definition. Stereo Tool can be set at the very highest quality using this version and the P4 3Ghz runs at around 50%. Its a really good version, better quality and lower resources used. For now I will stick with it instead of 4.22, until the new version is released. Once that happens, provided nothing changes quality wise, I will purchase the new version. Meanwhile I'll complete the build of the new computer. Its bound to come into use sooner or later for something.

Hope it's OK to re-start an old thread. I'm new to trying Stereo Tool. My first attempt is on version 7.03 using a Dell 3.4ghz Dual Core (probably a pair of 1.7 cores that they are calling 3.4), XP and a Marian Trace Alpha sound card. The CPU never hits 90% but the sound occasionally stutters. Sometimes when changing settings, the sound dies for about 1 second and then restores. Any idea why the audio might be stuttering on occasion when the CPU cycles are not maxing out? This same computer runs BBP with 100% reliability unless I try to add perfect DeClipper to it, in which case, the audio becomes garbled to the point of being almost unidentifiable. Thoughts? I've been a Breakaway fan for years, but Stereo Tool is moving forward and I want to know first hand how it compares to BBP. |

Hi and welcome.. It would be nice to also know: - what OS You are using - Exactly cpu model - memory amount - most important, is dual memory channel working - do you use Normal or Asio input/output - I guess you already tested "DPC Latency" tool for problems (?). etc.. |
