Personally I would go for the Natural Dynamics, leave it unslammed, and make the listeners happy.
I don't do FM broadcasting, so "the listeners" = me.

I read the part about Clean/Punch, and if that is correct, then long-term the situation would be better as far as Loudness, however, at this point in time ND has too much inefficient code in it for me to run it. Before you go assailing my system, Hans has also said that the code there is inefficient, as there are multiple CPU load statements in the todo list with respect to Natural Dynamics, so it isn't just me and my system.

Wow!

My pira75 spectrum analyzer shows 7 dbr of sound " power "
( at 75 khz of course! )

most radiostations have 2 or 3 dbr of power only!

stereotool can make 7 for sure !!
Yes in france all the radio are min 7dbr of sound
If you are 2 - 3 dbr you are little !

Skyrock had + 8,3 Db !!
Maximum power sound at 75khz, averge 73,5 Khz !

under 7 dbr of sound power ( for FM broadcasting ) the sound ...sounds like garbage on big speakers ..

the only exeption is stereotool , bbp, and omnia 9 where that doesnt happen..

( as i can listen on their stream...they sound like garbage ( skyrock france ) with distorted voices and pump ups and downs..
...
in our days ., you CAN BE LOUD AND CLEAN !! ( if use bbp, stool and omnia9)
( on fm broadcasting )
some years before that wasnt possible

Yes skyrock is a extrem and excessive compression sound

In france STool sound like near "FUN RADIO" , Fun radio is nearly 7,2 or 7,4 Db

Is good
Stereotool is very good program

Hi Hans,
Reading previous posts I gather the opinion that Natural Dynamics filter has been on the receiving end of some sharp criticisms. While part of it is attributed to un-optimized code, the other half, IMO, is largely due to the inherent architecture of the software itself. Something which has been highlighted before as well. That ST is primarily single threaded or should I say the threads run primarily on a single core of the CPU.
I remember you citing the reason that most ST filters have depenedencies on the previous stages(read filters) for the audio samples to be processed and eventually arrive.
Now I am absolutely uncertain if what I am about to suggest is practically possible to accomplish. Is it not possible to like 'inject' a well calculated amount of 'blank' audio samples in the filters which are at an advanced stage? Next, allocate separate threads (may be processes) for each of these filters. So that once the filters, which are at the very beginning of the chain, are done with the processing of the actual samples from the host application, can now pass on to the next filter which in the meantime would be done 'processing' the dummy samples. More the advanced stage a particular chain is at, more the number of 'blank' samples. Ofcourse, this has to be tuned so as not to lose sync(taking in to account context switching etc)
Reason I ask is simple. If it's possible to achieve this, may be we can utilize a better framework like OpenCL which in turn could leverage(if made to do so) the processing power of a GPU to Stereo Tool.

Much is possible w.r.t. performance, among others:
- Spreading the processing over multiple cores and increase the latency
- Several filters CAN be optimized, such as the declipper (NO dependency between channels).

Anyway, before I do that I do want to improve the efficiency of the code - especially for Natural Dynamics it's quite horrible (and it doesn't sound too good either).

That's where I'm at. Before beta57 (I think it was that one), I could run ND without much hassle. He then started experimenting with different approaches and the memory needed went way beyond 1MB, and I think beyond 2MB as well. So, where I'm at is that I haven't been able to even really listen to how things sound with that filter because it's just too much for my system. It may remain too much for it once all is said and done, but I don't think so, given that I can squeeze it in if I disable some stuff right now and he is saying that the code is fairly bloated...

From last beta...

- Natural Dynamics should be removed :p
- De-Clipper to be finished
- Release 6.20
- Coffie pause
- vX.X0 beta with new Clippers
.
.
.
- Natural Dynamics

What is a good value for Composite clipper (FM volume overdrive) ?

100% or 103.9% i read this value in this topic

if i move this slider it passed in red around 101% is corect ?
