Great!

I noticed that I missed a step in the behavior (in some hosts, the ST window was NOT placed inside the VST host parent window). That's fixed now - but this is one of the things that I suspected of causing the hangups earlier, so there is a chance that this new BETA causes hangups again (if it does, I'll at least know what to do).

Except for that I fixed 2 other minor issues:
- VST: Loading and saving new setting in VST plugin ■ DONE
- VST: Bypass mode: Copy input to output when out-of-place processing is selected ■ DONE, waiting for reply

Again, if you're not using the VST version, there's no reason to upgrade to this new version.

Is crushing again. It doesn't even load. Same host and effect chainer.

Odd. I'll find some other VST plugins to see how they handle this. The only thing that was missing in BETA67 is that the plugin window was not loaded inside the VST host window; but enforcing that seems to cause issues. Which is weird.

"It doesn't even load" - what does that mean exactly? You can't load the VST plugin, or you cannot open the GUI?

I can open Mixmeister, play songs, load Acon effect chainer, but when I attempt to load beta 68 through Acon, the whole program hangs up. So I meant that the vst plugin doesn't even load.

If I open beta 67 directly in Mixmeister (which hosts vst too), I see 2 windows of the same size, one with the plugin and one with nothing, but everything works (through Acon I see 1 window).

If I open beta 68 directly in Mixmeister and do not open the plugin, It functions for a while but only with the default settings -the GIU is hidden- and after some seconds it stops and hangs the host. If before that I attempt to open it, the progam hangs up inmediately.

Yes that 's what it points to.
For beta67,
Cubase: Check
Adobe Audition: Check
Sony Sound Forge: Check
dBpoweramp:Check
plus a few others.
All hosted directly. No adaptors or converters.
Yet sometimes it does crash while closing the host window(that includes clicking OK to render) or makes the application hang(esp in Adobe Audition and Cubase)

But a big problem persists in Adobe Audition and Cubase. Strange tones begin to generate as soon as any filter or section is enabled. Not certain if this has anything to do with 'out-of place/in-place' processing changes(this feature was not implemented in beta67).

EDIT: beta68 recalling last worked with settings in compatible hosts.

Hans, IMO the changes in code you made to fix the window positioning of the GUI of the host window has to be reverted in the next release. Please keep codes for both the versions beta67 and beta68 handy. Might need to fiddle a little between the two to eventually settle for something that'll be unanimously accepted

Ok, Beta67 VST works.

But when I compare the processing (what I hear and what I see with GUI meters) VST versus DSP there is a very big difference (using the same preset).
The output from VST sounds muddy.
With the old Betas I never noticed such a difference.
I have no time to do more tests now, because I have to fight against the snow again.

But everybody here that use the VST version should compare the processing with the DSP version.
If it is only a problem with my setup (chains via BA Live) or if it is a general problem of the VST version ?

Post subject:  Re: Stereo Tool 5.02

I think I've found it.

I wasn't creating the main window as a child window (which is fine in the stand alone and Winamp version, but not in the VST version where the window content is placed inside a parent frame).

To enforce this (and avoid problems in - for example - mAirList), I called SetParent to move the (previously created) window into the parent window. But... Because the window wasn't a child window, this wasn't possible. Apparently it worked sometimes, and sometimes not.

This new version is BETA67 with child window (and of course with the added parameters etc.):
VST version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... 510-69.dll

If this version works, the next step will be to make it more stable (fix crashes).

Note: I've tried to create a setup myself to reproduce the issue, but with ACON Effect Chainer I can just load older BETA's without any issues... Anyway, if this version works I'm very close to the solution.

And (I'm assuming here that the previous version works fine...) this is the same version with increased stability. So the crashes should be gone now. It also responds a lot faster when you open or close the GUI. Tested in mAirList, VST_Scanner, Acon Chainer VST.
