Quote: BY REQUEST: MULTIBAND WITH MICHI95'S SETTINGS: Oh my God, what have I done.I thought this would be something for Christmas (or to try with a V6 beta). I took the frequencies somehow out of the blue (to keep 10 bands overall structure). So maybe this is total nonsense in practice ? I hope not, but I am not sure if removing 2.8K (replaced with a broad 4K) is a good idea. You remember we have discussed this whole topic (multiband) a few months ago (how much bands and where ?). Maybe it is necessary to use 12 instead of 10 bands ? I have no time to test it now (I have to work), but 4K (as replacement for 5.5K) plus the addition of 8K (narrow) should really be better (in my theory !?). Is it possible to use a somehow asymmetric bandwith (and if yes, do you already use it) ? Or could it be possible to make the individual centered frequencies configurable with a "hidden setting" inside a .STS ? So that as default it looks like this .... multiband01=40 multiband02=90 .... multiband08=5500 multiband09=10000 multiband10=16000 .... And the only way to change it is to edit a .STS by hand !? This way everybody with this special interest could try whatever he/she thinks is perfect, while you can keep the default multiband frequency structure (all presets until now are based on). Hans, you are really the best ! One question: I could try to measure it, but it would be faster when you give the answer. What are the frequencies for the seven bands in Noise gate (expander) ? |

@Michi: Don't worry, it's just a quick 'special build' for testing, won't be available in my next build ![]() Your .sts file idea would be really easy to implement ![]() But actually your (and Bojcha's) last few post have also steered me in another direction. In the past, I have noticed annoying sounds when 1 band gets much louder than the bands around it. So I built in a protection mechanism in Multiband: If 1 band gets louder than the 2 bands surrounding it, it's lowered. This had a very noticeable impact on the sound. Now I'm thinking that I might need to do something similar for when a band gets too low. (Try it: If you reduce the volume of just 1 band it usually sounds really 'bad' and 'not full'). And: Often I see 2 bands dropping instead of just 1 (which makes sense, since there's usually some overlap between bands). So maybe I have to do something like: a band cannot get below the average of the band above and below it. The problem here is to protect it in a way that maintains flat frequency response. |

Highest band is 22.05 kHz, every band to the left is divided by 2.

I just looked up what I'm doing to protect against too loud bands: A band cannot get louder than the average of itself and the 2 surrounding bands. Say: Band 1 volume = .45, band 2 = .8, band 3 = .50, then it will be limited below (45 + .8 + .50) / 3 = .58. Now I need to do something similar for 'low spikes'. Say band 1 volume = .8, band 2 = .45, band 3 = .85, doing the exact same thing would lock the volume above (.8 + .45 + .85) = .7. Hm. Actually this would mean ALWAYS using this average value. However, this breaks clipping, and may cause far too loud sounds to go into the next processing steps. |

I think that's a good idea...

Quote: No... its not Generally problem.. i notice more sound clarity and warm vocals on Beta47 vs 48 and 49.
What happens (let's say in BETA47) if you turn the 2 bass protection filters off? If that doesn't break anything I'll just remove them - and then BETA47 is equal to BETA50 (according to my tests, except for the stricter filtering and highs protection).
But Beta 49 has better, constant Bass. Its my opinion.. |

I allready change to Beta50 ![]() So in Beta50 i have the 2 Bass Protection ON. no diff if OFF, only sub bass diff.! |

Hm... Did you set 'Allow louder lows' to +10000? (If not, could you try?) I'm curious if that difference is still there with those settings. (And if the sound is better - you should at least get much more deep bass if you set it to +10000)
