This new thing works completely differently. You can use your existing band structure etc, but the attack/release and all such settings behave completely different, and you'll likely have to adjust the thresholds a lot as well. Just switching to the new mode could accidentally work, but it can also be completely wrong.

It's also a compressor. And it also uses multiple bands. Those are about all the simularities.

I might try and record some nicely processed stations around here, upload a link, and describe what qualities I like and dislike about the sounds of each stations in the recordings and see if others agree with me as well in hopes this helps Hans better pinpoint exactly what people do and don't like hearing and potentially solve these sound issues for good rather than having to keep fixing them constantly after the final product is released.

I believe Hans will figure it out. He is a very smart individual. It's still early and still being developed, so I'm sure he will find a way to make this work and sound amazing and get it to surpass every other audio processor that's currently out on the market.

But please confirm if this is what you're hearing. If you turn Advanced Bass Distortion Protection off, is the "wimpy" sound gone? If so I know what I need to look at. ABDP is definitely in need of a redesign, so I hope this is it.

Interesting. Where would I find this? Is it FM only? The description makes me think of the Bass Intermodulation Distortion Protection in the advanced clipper; is this it? I remember when this was introduced. The random bass knocking would wake me up without it.

BETA101 is posted! Biggest change is that the sudden drop behavior is completely different; the old behavior responded with a delay and could then seem to suddenly increase the level. The new behavior responds quickly at the start and then fades out.

For those complaining about a "wimpy" sound specifically on FM: Please try if what you hear disappears if you disable "Advanced Bass Distortion Protection". That will make the whole sound a lot more punchy. With the old compressor, there wasn't enough control of the bass to run without this - well you can, but it causes a lot of intermodulation distotion - the bass causes havoc in the mids and highs. I haven't tried, but the new compressor has much better control of the levels, so it might be possible to disable it if you carefully tweak the Intellilimiter. I'm planning to have another look at the clipper later - we first need to finish the new compressor.

I was talking about non-FM personality. Am not sure about other peoples.

If I have Intellilimiter on 6db (because I cannot go lower) and a 2-millisecond attack, the bass will output super high to the clipper which results in it sounding terrible with "advanced bass distortion protection off".

I found that switching to a preset changes the action of the multiband compressor. It also afterwards doesn't allow me to change the "compressor type"

My head hurts. My ears are broken. is there a thing like an audiologist for compression?

It just sounds terrible. It almost pushed down in the water and crackly. ;(
