Chris: Do you have 'Improved loudnes distortion protection' or 'Very deep bass protection' in Loudness enabled? I just compared the code of BETA47 vs. BETA49 and that seems to be the only big difference between the two (the other is the more strict filtering, but this causes very little difference, if any, and it should IMPROVE the quality). If so, please turn them off! (and let me know, so I know that that's the issue). I have now restored the settings of BETA47 for these 2 filters, but I want to completely remove them because they don't seem to improve the quality anymore. (They only reduce it). |

yes both and TWO steps too.If so, please turn them off! (and let me know, so I know that that's the issue). Dunno about vocals, but I did make a mistake in BETA48 (!) and BETA49: I changed the settings to cause less artifacts, but in fact got much more artifacts. So I was moving in the wrong direction.this will make the diff on vocals too between Beta49 vs Beta47?? I *expect* better sound with these filters DISABLED. (If you get BETTER results with these filters ENABLED instead of DISABLED in BETA47, so before I made the error, then I'll have to fix these filters. Otherwise I'll remove them completely - I *think* they are not needed anymore.) (Edit: But I just realized that they might make the bass more constant.) |

I wanted to start that topic about "not-so-warm" vocals after next final StereoTool release. Again i think that that can be solved with ratio settings in multiband. Currently can be sligtly fixed by boosting up speed in multiband for first 4 bands. So, if Up Speed for all band is e.g. .00005 put first 4 sliders at .00007. |

Hans, true.. Beta49 has more constant Bass, i told you before. but vocals are not so warm as on Beta47. Bojcha you right, but... i compared the both Beta's with the same preset. So the purpose is to listen improvements with the same preset, not to make an other. |

To be honest i did't notice that difference. My thought was that is generally problem with ST.@Hans Final Clip of freqs 0-350Hz: Can you try to make it simple (for start): I just set Post-amp to 0.93 and playing those freqs only.. that's same as like final limit. That should be simle too make. (?) on slider "Then Rize to (static)" |

No... its not Generally problem.. i notice more sound clarity and warm vocals on Beta47 vs 48 and 49. But Beta 49 has better, constant Bass. Its my opinion.. |

Quote: Again i think that that can be solved with ratio settings in multiband. For sure this would help. But I would add to rethink the whole high band structure (the centered frequencies). I have just played with some Jazz music (Dave Brubeck "Take Five" and others). This 2.8K-5.5K-10K is sub-optimal. With 5.5K you process vocals (and/or lead instruments) and the main energy of hihats (snares) at the same time. When I use an additional parametric equalizer like the free EasyQ http://www.rs-met.com/freebies.html post Stereo Tool I get much better results with small boosts at 4K to enhance vocal (and other instruments) character without that unwanted boost for hihats and snares (that are introduced inside Stereo Tool with 5.5K processing). Another thing I have noticed: All my frequency analysis lead to the conclusion that 10K is not centered at 10K. It seems as if this is centered at 9K ! So instead of 1.4K-2.8K-5.5K-10K (9K)-16K IMO something like 1.4K-4k-8K-11K-15K would be better. 4K should be very broad (and 8K should be extremely narrow). |

Ok, now I'm curious... Winamp DSP plugin: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... 510-50.exe Stand alone version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... 510-50.exe VST version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... 510-50.dll VST version (No SSE2): http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... 510-50.dll Command line version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... 510-50.exe Linux command line version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... BETA510-50 (not available) Linux GUI version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... BETA510-50 (not available) This is BETA47 with the following changes: - Better lows protection against loud 'S' sounds from BETA48 - Tighter filtering of BETA49 - Adjusted the 2 bass protection things in the opposite direction of what I did in BETA48. Michi95: You might be right about the different multiband frequencies... I'll build a version with those settings. |
