Quote: Hey hans, in the AGC controls could you please update the help section to describe the effects of the sliders to the right of attack & decay? I'm kinda getting the grasp of what they do but I'm unsure if I am right or just getting lucky.
Have you seen this page? http://help.stereotool.com/6.00/automat ... agc_.shtml

No sir, I can't find a link to that page in the help section. The help section that I can access directly from the ST site has sections for ST 4.22 but not 6.00. Thanks for the link tho! ![]() Edit - Or not, I still don't know what the sliders next to the decay and attack sliders do. ![]() |

1. That's because this is part of the new HELP pages, which are not completed yet (hence the errors in the page). Can be reached via the HELP button in Stereo Tool 6.00+. 2. Why not? Is the explanation unclear? |

Hans, I've some inferences here. Not sure if it could mean something in terms of scope for improvement. Previously when working with ST beta31A, there was drops, stutters say when I am browsing, moving windows in the 2core-VM set to use 50ms buffer, ASIO4ALL latency at 256 samples(44.1KHz). In beta31D, I set every other process to use 1 specific core, say core 0(affinity to CPU0) and set ST affinity to CPU1. On doing so, sound freezes after a few seconds. I see ST doing the processing though. I try to bring the ASIO4ALL confg from notification area. It doesnot respond initially, and after 6-7 secs shows up. Next I increase the latency and bring it back to 128 samples(thats 128 less than previous setting), bring buffer to 20ms, So now with browser opened, anti-virus running, I get stable output times except every 20-25 seconds when ASIO thread freezes. Point I'm trying to make is can you make provision for raising the priority of ASIO thread and also to set affinity for ASIO thread to a particular CPU? I think we can achieve good results. |

Phoenix: The ASIO thread itself??? I don't think I should touch it... It should be managed by the ASIO driver (ASIO4ALL in this case). It's also very surprising that the ASIO4ALL config panel takes 6 seconds to appear. On the other hand, this does correspond to what eldoradofm saw - that the ASIO thread gets interrupted, not Stereo Tool's processing itself. Could you try what happens in your case if you set Stereo Tool's priority to "normal" (inside Stereo Tool that is), but then in Task Manager set Stereo Tool to REALTIME. For eldoradofm that seemed to solve it. I think doing that also increases the priority of the ASIO thread! Question: Are the issues (ASIO sound going when multicore enabled etc.) solved now? |

Yes, that part's working fine. Both for ASIO and Direct Sound.

Actually now I disabled all unwanted services and killed processed not needed. So running 19 barebone services(Win 7x86 VM), a total of 23 processes running. Every process except ST has been set to use CPU0(at below normal) and ST itself to use CPU1(Realtime). But then I do see ASIO4ALL freezing while ST is processing at breeze. It's definitely the ASIO thread that's not getting enough priority(I kept 'Use MultiCore' disabled to achieve the effect of setting affinity). I guess things would be different (I mean good) when working on the physical machine than VM because of 4 cores and direct interception(though my processor supports hardware based virtualization, so I don't find much difference in binary execution in VM, but.... I think doing that also increases the priority of the ASIO thread! ![]() EDIT: Set ST to low with affinity to CPU1 alone. No pops/clicks at all. Now changed affinity to CPU0, so all processes running on CPU0(CPU1 is idle) and set to realtime, guess what? It's raining pops and clicks and ASIO4ALL icon flickering from green to red! like a metronome display. Changed to low, clicks and pops occur once in 10-12 secs. Set ST's affinity back to CPU1 with Low priority...stable sound at 128 samples latency(20ms buffer). Definitely it's ST's priority causing ASIO's thread priority to be subdued when the former is set to realtime. Now this is intriguing: http://mtippach.proboards.com/index.cgi ... hread=2210 |

re: GUI closedown (DSP version, single-core system) I have just tested this with a high CPU load (SpectraPlus, analyzing the signal being played) and the GUI has problems closing down, so it's any high CPU load, not just Flash content or Anti-Virus scanners... I'm not sure what can be done about it, other than perhaps giving the GUI the priority of Above Normal...but that seems to be going against the trend on the clicking and popping... |

Do you mean minimizing stereotool? Or do you mean shutting down stereotool?

- Slow Minimizing to tray and ST Shut down, can be slowed with "Above Normal" priority for Window. Actually BA Asio is same. Processing is realtime and window is 'above normal" *beta31D - Asio Driver asks for Application restart when Sample rate is changed in ST. - Asio buffer granularity: Reading refreshed and showed always now. - MultiCore audio OK now (asio), but, now i have minimal buffer size 3.1ms, was 2.0-2.1ms |
