Oh, shoot!! Testing now!!

Is it recommended to load a preset or start fresh? I'm so bad at compressors, I feel that I need a starting point. Are the default settings good to begin with?

Synonyms for adaptive: Flexible, Elastic, Malleable, Pliable. Naming things professionally is also challenging.

Mwahaha! Watergate :)

The defaults are probably NOT good, at least not for attack and release. I would suggest starting with attack around 200-400 ms, release at 2000-4000, and make sure that Exponential Release is disabled (you can enable it but we did our tests without it). The default value for new settings should be ok.

3 people (including me) have been testing during development, 2 of those have tested without an AGC, just the multiband by itself at infinite ratio and a massive (40 dB) drive. If you do that, you probably want to use band linking with at most 3-6 dB between bands.

I can post my own test settings here, but I don't want to push everyone into using it the same way. And my own settings were made more to see if things didn't break than to actually sound good. Others have done that, but I don't want to post their not-yet-completely-finished versions here either. What I can tell you is that people have reported that they need far less "tricks" such as equalizing settings to make everything sound good; the new compressor delivers a much more consistent output. So if you start with an existing preset, chances are that you have to disable a lot of "enhancements" elsewhere.

(Which reminds me, I need to add an image to the blog post that shows the improved consistency - doing that now).

I see. The GUI limits the release at 2000. And Drive at 18. Can these be opened up a bit during the testing phase?

In case you have already read it: I have just added some images to it. The texts itself aren't changed, but you might want to look at those waveforms which clarify some of the things that are described in the text.

Ah, good point. For release, use the release speed multiplier - we will indeed need to change the ranges. For input drive you can use Pre Amp for now. That's how I tested, and I hadn't realized that the real ranges are too narrow.

Adaptive Compressor: Limit section. Neither Clipper nor Limiter allows "off" unless the default is chosen from the right-click menu. Otherwise, they cap out at 17.5.

I sure hope you will share a new settings soon for the Adaptive compressor...
I selected the "Compressor type" adapter and clicked on of the Band Control icons (Gating, Detection...) and then tried to go back to Digital but the compressor type doesn't change unless you select the "Miscellaneous" to close and then again to open, then it allows changes to the compressor type.

Ah, yes, that's a GUI problem. I'll look into it.

I don't understand what you're saying. If I go back to Digital that just works, I don't have to open and close Misc for that. I can just leave it open and go back and forth.
