invisible request ![]() The thing is that the processing is currently changing almost daily. I could give you a diagram of the 'big' processing steps (actually I'll just type it below), but not really a detailed view. High level view: 1. Lowpass filter if not phase linear 2. Noise gate 3. AGC 4. Stereo Boost 5. Multiband 6. Singleband 7. Phase rotation 8. Final Limiter 9. Loudness 10. Hard Limit 11. Addition of MPX signal, composite limiter. |

Restarted the build with strict clipping. But: I still don't know what the advantage of that is????? (Basically you'll loose some bass at places where there are no other sounds that can distort). |

Quote: If I'm not too mistaken this time around, you re-uploaded beta 42 after a while changing the defaults for 'High vs Lows Protection' range to 400-800 Hz. But it sounds there's more to it than just changing the defaults. Clarity is undeniable 'very high' than all previous releases and sounds more airy, but annoyingly missing the sweet spot for vocals and bass. Probably fiddling a little with the 'punch' might help.
No, that's the only change between the 1st and 2nd upload of BETA42. You can manually set them back to 300-600 to get the same sound as before.

Punch enabled for all frequencies again (set to 'Clean' to turn it off completely): Winamp DSP plugin: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... 510-43.exe Stand alone version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... 510-43.exe VST version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... 510-43.dll VST version (No SSE2): http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... 510-43.dll Command line version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... 510-43.exe Linux command line version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... Still no strict clip? And it's not last in chain.. Punch is after it. This should be last. or i should put it simpler... Another Hard Limit... But for 0-350Hz. |

Then Punch woudn't work! The whole idea is that Punch breaks through the clipping.Quote: or i should put it simpler...
0-350 Hz is clipped hard - but Loudness allows it to get louder again (especially if there are some higher frequencies present). I could clip it even harder but that would probably reduce the audio quality instead of improving it.Another Hard Limit... But for 0-350Hz. Why would this be better? Edit: Just did a measurement. Without 'Punch' it works reasonably well (clipping at 90% gives a peak level around 95% or so, lowering it further lowers the output level at the correct rate). Only Punch causes big differences - as intended! (Set it all the way to 'Clean' to turn Punch off completely and get the expected clipping behavior). Edit #2: Punch bass protection in the last version seems a bit too strong (causes some pumping again). Building an updated version with less strict protection now. Increasing 'highs burst' helps as well. |

![]() Hans I knew it that we talking about two different things. ![]() Maybe you miss this picture... ![]() There you can see very loud Orbans preset. And same thing is with BBP. There are two Clippers (big question is, is it at composite clipper or in Limitter) One is clipperd at 95% (sometimes at 90 or lower - depending on the preset), and freqs are 0-350Hz or 0-250Hz Second is at 100%, that's rest freqs. This is BBP with HARD pushed BASS and with Input freqs 0-300hz ![]() Here, never cross 94%. To be honest.. I have idea why is that important.. but not 100% sure, just want same in ST to see what will happen ![]() So, LAST filter beside "Hard Limit" "Hard Clip" with freq selection. |

To be useful for protecting the highs (I assume that's your goal?), this must be done INSIDE Loudness. I'm now building a new version - I have turned on a stronger filter for the bass. But I'm really curious what effect you are expecting from this? (You will have to set Clean/Punch to Clean to test it). |

Bojcha, This stricter filtering doesn't seem to have a lot of effect (it is A BIT stricter, but not much). Don't know why (will have to check). I'll post this version here, and continue without this stricter filtering afterward unless anyone hears an improvement in this version. (Apparently you'll need to set the limit value to 80% to get 90%. Like I said, I don't understand why - I guess I should check what's wrong here.)
