Used only Loudness at max quality with only "Allow clip bass bellow" at -6. I assume that at many points "sensitivity" will alone bring that settings anyway to that point, so it must work good with settings like that.
I will listen to this (I haven't yet), but the part I made red and underlined is why I am so frustrated. If you just test something in isolation and say "AHA!!!!! A PROBLEM!!!!", then that is absolutely not a valid test. All that it means is that you spotted "something". You can't define that "something" as an actual "problem" yet, because you are only testing a single filter in isolation, not as the filter interacts with all the other processes. ...and, like I said, these are settings-specific stuff. A -6 dB always clip bass is significantly lower than anything I've seen anyone post for a preset. |

To my ears, the same problem is present at any bass clipping level, and even if the whole bass protection section is switched off. It was really a design flaw in the clipper - in the latest version it's better (not completely fixed, but as-good-as-it-gets). |

Dear Brian, i posted you track with 3 parts. 2 and 3 are important. So, i am not telling you to just listen 2 OR 3, but to compare them. You already know what is 2 and what is 3. -6dB at "that" settings there is because it's easier to hear/compare sample and also, it's usual thing for mid-loud and loud (especially FM) presets. Sorry for that, but you can actually set it however you want - you'll have same result. - Only loudness is ON. Turning other filter ON will just make things even worse. Only thing i forgot to say is that input was 0dB. Also, when you check test_preset You'll notice that loudness is at only +0.08dB! So Almost NO clipp/limit at all. |

I downloaded the file. It is missing the raw, unprocessed track. I will assume (possibly incorrectly), that it is "Jack Is Back". You also made it a short snip of a section of the track, not the track in its' entirety. Commenting on what I hear, then testing this in complete isolation from every other filter that is normally used, then sure, the claimed 6.30 version, a processing of some undistributed file of unknown quality, spliced into a wav file that is claimed to contain an original sample and a 6.31 sample, does have a very slight metallic tone and/or a ring to the bass hits, but only very slightly, and possibly only noticed because I'm trying so hard to notice a difference. Those are a lot of caveats. I don't have the raw, unprocessed track to carry out my own independent test, so that's as far as I can go. If I was supposed to hear something different than that, I guess I could maybe stretch it to say that the claimed 6.30 version seems to possibly contain a little more high frequency content. To be honest, if you didn't tell me that there was a difference, or didn't frame a situation as "listen to see if you do hear a difference", I'd tell you they were all the same. That's what I mean by "power of suggestion", and how it can have an impact on what people believe that they hear. |

As I said, if I wasn't made to feel like I *HAD* to notice some sort of difference, I don't think that I would notice a difference.Ultimately, if it makes Bojcha happy, then so long as you can bring the CPU load issue under control, I'll be happy too. After that though, I'd like to personally appeal to Bojcha to refrain from bringing up these very, very, very subtle issues. There will be plenty of time to re-visit issues like this after Hans does the other changes he has planned. |

I am... Brianonia. It's a little West of Estonia... ![]() The point I was trying to make is valid none-the-less. Any person who has ever been involved in any kind of Science knows that tests need to be detailed, documented, and independently verifiable. Case in point: The 1989 reported discovery of cold fusion by Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischmann... |

On a side note... A naive thought. There are some genuine chances that Hans can make some quick and real money out of this. @Hans: Can you make a real world implementation out of the DSP scheme of things for this filter - 'Protect from Loud Female Voices'? Trust me, the entire global fraternity of husbands would be highly indebted to you and would be willing to pay any price for this implementation. |

Otay... So what Bojcha posted is indeed DBN - "Jack Is Back". It took me quite some time to find it. Not sure why I went to the band's myriad of sites (soundcloud, some of their own stuff on YouTube, MySpace, etc...), when all I had to do was poke around on YouTube with a simple search... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCipxx4aaxk That's a more extended mix than what some of the other mixes are that I found... Soooooooo.... Working on trying to get the raw, unprocessed track for independent testing... ![]() |
