I'm actually not sure if this is the correct behavior or not. Is there *any* reason why you would want to output stereo sound and add an RDS signal to it? I would say, the fact that RDS is present means it's an MPX signal hence it should be mono.
Ah, really. On earlier versions I never noticed this. I did notice when activating the "Encode Stereo" feature that it went mono, which makes sense to me to send it to the transmitter this way, but the "Encode RDS" as I recall didn't do that.

Fact is now that I went back and tested it again I found that if the "Encode RDS" button is activated without the "Encode Stereo" button active, only left channel audio is played through both speakers.

Indeed that is wrong should be L+R with RDS on FM output.

So output L = L+R + RDS
and also output R = L+R + RDS

Hi Hans. Some feedback re; BETA633-035 (Winamp DSP version) -:

- Low pass filter value in config shows OK but on the status bar between Sample Size and FM Status, it is the current set value - 1?
- In Phase Rotation/Low Latency (Look back/ahead) can we get a value bar shading more apparent than the grey on grey (such as on behavior where it is orange)?
- Would be great to add beta version to About screen. Downloading new versions to try and forgetting to apply them can be a pain to work out what version you are actively using! :)

In reference to RDS only on, isn't there a phase/sync reference between the 19k pilot tone and RDS? One assumes you could opt to run RDS only by simply running it and the pilot only and forgo the MPX (L+R) signal altogether? There are situations where a mono-based news/sports station may want to run RDS...

Regards

Rossco

Stand alone: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... 33-036.exe
Winamp DSP: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... 33-036.exe
VST: http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... 33-036.dll

Fixed:
- Add a warning in the buttons bar if unregistered options are in use, clicking must open register window.
- Same for new version alerts. Clicking should open site.
- Changed looks of status bar, added hover.
- Optimized vertical meter drawing (for vertical meters coming from top to down, now only the changes are drawn instead of redrawing the whole meter every time), CPU load might be slightly lower at large screen sizes..

Partial:
- Add bandpass, FM (via MPX panel!), latency/quality and sound cards to bottom display. Add hover.

TODO:
- Hangup reported on preset loading
- Mouse unresponsive reported
- Mouse shape

Less urgent for usability:
- Design (several people are working on something)

For later:
- Multi-language support
- Add basic/advanced modes
- Add '-6' '-12' etc. beside output bars where possible.
- Context sensitive Help (help button should be next to the preset buttons)
- Drag (resize window parts) lines, also between to/bottom part (scopes/meters).
- Confirm on close (stand alone version)

OK, I did some more testing to figure out why my RDS is making the music mono, left channel only,, no answer yet however, it is directly related to all the Bojcha presets. I only get this undesired effect when using his presets, all other presets will leave the RDS stereo. hmm, and this new 036 released crashed on me a few times when changing presets, guess changing more than 5 or 6 times did it. Guess I can't treat it rough yet?

You feed MPX to transmitter? Then you should only use 1 output.

@ Valiant..
Also to me not clear.. are you using preset for FM transmitter or home listening?

Confirm the hang when load a preset which is saved in the beta versions of 6.33
Old version sts files - no problem
And in XP no mono when RDS is off or on or whatever .. always stereo played .
Can`t understand what is the problem on that one ?!

Post subject:  Re: New things...

RDS mono issue occurs either when you don't select an FM output sound card and still enable RDS, or when you DO enable an FM sound card, enable RDS and listen to the FM sound card output. In both cases, that would be the correct behavior, except that Valiant also reported that the output only contains the left channel audio - that would definitely be a bug.

About crashes when loading preset files: So far I haven't been able to reproduce it (it was reported a few versions ago already), I'll try again tomorrow. There's probably still something somewhere that can cause crashes - and the current code doesn't handle those well; any crash causes the whole program to lock up (deliberately - there are and should not be any protections against crashes, there just should not be any).

One question from me: I got reports from eldoradofm (he did some extensive measurements) that when running Stereo Tool in full-screen mode the CPU load with the latest beta is considerably higher than with released version 6.32 on his system (order: 55% instead of 47%). I ran a similar measurements and I get the opposite result - new interface CPU load is lower than that of 6.32 (82% vs 87%, in both cases running at the maximum possible speed - which is why the CPU load is so high). So, now I'm curious what other people are getting. (Note: You may want to wait for the next version to be finished, building now, contains some small performance improvements - but I see only about 1% difference on my system).

Stand alone: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... 33-037.exe
Winamp DSP: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... 33-037.exe
VST: http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... 33-037.dll
Command line: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... 33-037.exe

Fixed:
CPU load MIGHT be slightly lower (I'm writing things to video card in bigger chunks, and per chunk I check if lines at start or end can be removed because nothing changed there), lines that were incorrectly lighting up in 036 are gone again. No further changes.

TODO:
- Improve GUI drawing performance
- Add sound card display to status bar (?)
- Move status bar up a few pixels when display is very small (no bottom section)
- Hangup reported on preset loading
- Mouse unresponsive reported
- Mouse shape
