- In my oppinion ST BASS Clipper is in wrong place. - Should be right before final limiting.
Will check that - but I think it's already there... (Except that the singleband limiter is still in between).
Quote:
In relation of that, others have their Distortion cancelled/controlled clippers, wich again in ST case.. Main FM clipper is again too soft.
What do you mean by 'Main FM clipper'? Final Limiter, Loudness, Hard Limit, Composite Limiter?
Quote:
Clipper shuld be zero-attack/release with time limiter with a ratio of infinity-to-one. (OMNIA)
In Clipper like that Intermodulation distortions occures.
Sounds like Final Limiter and Loudness...

But, again this is not case in ST because ST clipper is not like that. It's more like simple limiter!

So it indicate that this voice vibrations (caused by low-bas sounds) are not in clipper .. but more it's in limiters or multiband.
Multiband has no effect between bands that far away - so it cannot cause voice vibrations. Loudness however can, especially if the bass gets too loud. So I really need to get better control of the maximum bass level.

My oppinion is, when you can play any track thru ST (in FM mode) with only Hard Limit and Composite Clipper ON.. Than it will be good.
Hm... Do you mean with a louder input (Pre Amp) or standard input level (1.00)? I made a change to Hard Limit a few versions ago that causes it to respond much slower to loud volume spikes, I guess I should disable that again.

What I'll do: Before I release version 5.10 the last thing to do is to check the presets. However, they will be very much affected by a different Loudness processing. So I'll look into that first - IF my new idea works it should enable me to get a higher (90%) bass level with maybe even less distortion. At least that's what I hope...

* Bass boost is not problem ..but bass clipping just before loudness..
* Composite Limiter
* no, again composite limiter

Here is best voice vibration track ever

So, are you saying the the composite limiter is causing the voice vibrations???

I can set the composite limiter more aggressive, but then you'll get distortion frequencies back (which I removed by making it less aggressive as you asked a few beta's ago).

My bad again...

Loudness is last and controlss most things .. so there are distortions ..
Hard Limit and Comnposite Limiter is more responsible for bad highs.
I know that it's slower now and SHOULD be faster .. but that's the whole point .. to make ti to be fast but without distrotions thru band.

Standard input at 1.00

Dear friend!

I am very very excited with your software FM processor!

I was using breakaway for some time but breakaway has a VERY VERY IMPORTANT PROBLEM WITH FM proccesing.
breakaway doesnt have DC protection on the MPX output .

Stereotool is the only software processor that has some protections for very low frequencies and DC protection on the MPX composite signal!

thank u thank u thank u!

( i have payed stereotool some time ago )

Welcome Camclone,
I am familiar with your problem. 8-) Loud Bass right?
Must tell you that same type of DC problem is in the Stereo Tool too but seem much less. ;)

Good news: I've been playing with this new Loudness idea, and - with Bojcha's latest song - I'm getting about 3 dB louder bass with LESS vibrations in the vocals! The bass is now also strictly limited to some value.

And that's with 'Improved Loudness Distortion Protection' and 'Very deep bass protection' turned off, 'Allow louder lows' at +7500.

I am getting some more pumping when those loud bass sounds are present, but it doesn't seem to cause more distortion. I will have to check a lot more tracks to be sure though - and so far I've been testing it manually, which means that for each track I want to test I have to perform a lot of manual actions.

Post subject:  Re: Stereo Tool 5.02

Hm, in some other tracks the voice vibrations get worse (still with 1.5 dB louder bass).
But some tweaking of settings might help there. (For now, I still see that to get completely rid of such distortions, I need to keep the deep bass below ~ 75%. My tests so far keep ALL the bass below 500 Hz below 100% - which is likely too high).

Edit: Part of the Loudness filter boosts low frequencies if loud high frequencies are present to avoid volume drops. This doesn't seem to be needed that much anymore with the new Loudness algorithm - maybe turning this off will reduce the distortion!

Ah yes ...
Actually something like 'vice versa' should be there. Like...
Lowering lows if loud mids/highs present.
