i put it on transmitter .. i am listening for 2 hours ... and audio is more stable ..
i have some distorsion on highs .. but even i lower output .. that's i supose is not by ST .. must recheck all.
If you have distortion, lowering the output volume wouldn't help... Because if it's caused by the Loudness filter, it would still be present. If it stays there when you lower the Loudness slider, then it's caused by something else.

What setting are you using for the "Allow more lows" in the Loudness panel? You could try lowering it - if the distortion goes away, then it must be caused by the bass. If you have to put it below 0, something must still be wrong with the processing. The low frequencies have been increased since the previous version, and loud lows can cause distorted highs.

If you have a track where you can clearly hear it, and the settings you used, please let me know so I can look into it.

now i disable all processes ... normaly only FM output, rds, stereo, and ephasize, pre-amp on 1 .. just to see what signal i get ..from studio .. end sound is super clear .. so somewhere in ST... i heard that earlier.. much earlier.. on some very special highs like cresh and male/female SH.. it sounds like no distortion .. but like vibrato.
Am at home now.. here i remotly go to pc wit ST.. tomorow i'll upload some songs i don't have it here.
Hans..
what do you think about bypass in standalone in the way i wrote erlier.
and i'll tell this again .. on main window the final-limiter meter is not working as shuld but in limiter/loudnes window is good.

and one thing important...
if i watch new "ITU IBS.1770" vu meter in mpxtool... start ST on transmitter.. load some preset (fm europe) it goes around -10, -9.... now i shut down ST and start again.... now that meter show level around -8,-7...

Actually, that makes sense... I had built in an extra filter that should improve "swooshy" highs (they sound a bit like a low quality MP3), but I turned it off starting at the 2nd version of May 27th because I discovered that it was causing distortion when loud lows were present. The first responses I got after that were that the sound is cleaner...

I think there are two possible causes of reduced highs quality:
- The lows are too loud, leaving not enough room for the highs.
- The processing that I have removed on May 27th actually did help...

Can you try what happens if you lower the bass level?

I'll also create a version that processes lows using the new method (which avoids distortion caused by loud lows), but processes the highs using the old method. I'll upload it asap. But I expect that the "high frequency edge" will come back in this version.

If this doesn't help, I would be very interested in song (+ settings) where this is clearly noticable....

I won't do that for this release (I want to finish it and stop adding new things every day, because if I keep doing that it will never be finished). But it would be a very useful option for a future release.

I still don't see it here. Maybe it's a stand alone version only problem - I'll check.

Ok, now that's really odd... I'll look into it!

In that case I guess I have increased the bass level too much...
(After listening to sounds for many hours for days in a row, I've noticed this before and I'm noticing it again now, I really don't hear any of the obvious artifacts anymore - in fact I'm getting so used to them that I don't notice them anymore... I should stop working on ST for a week and then come back... But that would take far too long. I'll try if I can notice anything bad again tomorrow. - some time ago I read about a research, that showed that kids who are used to listening to music on iPod's prefer MP3s over original CD sound in listening tests, just because they are so used to that sound...).

If you use the Loudness "Allow extra lows" slider, how low do you have to set it to get rid of these bad highs?

After reading that lowering the bass level solved the problem, I don't really expect too much from this anymore but... Here's a version where the highs are processed using the pre-27 may method, and the lows using the new method. The highs should be less "swooshy" here, but they might sound more "edgy".
Winamp DSP plugin: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... _BETA2.exe
Stand alone version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... _BETA2.exe
Command line: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... _BETA2.exe
VST version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... _BETA2.dll

Edit: Actually it could work... The intention of the filter that I have now turned on again is to avoid big changes in the sound of the high frequencies... Which might just be what's needed here.

Bojcha,

Do you mean a very-very-very fast vibrato? Where the volume goes up and down very rapidly? For example in the "S" sound at 0:40.220 in the track you sent me?

If so, stop testing - I know what you mean now and I hear it myself very clearly. And indeed it wasn't there in the 27/5 version.

Edit: I think I have a solution. Will take some time though...

This version should solve it:

Winamp DSP plugin: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... _BETA2.exe
Stand alone version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... _BETA2.exe
Command line: UNAVAILABLE
VST version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... _BETA2.dll

The bass peak levels are a bit lower for frequencies below 150 Hz. On average the lows are about 1 dB softer, but it should not sound less warm - the change only affects very loud peaks.
