simple...
- Load "BAD" file in winamp (turn off EQ on Winamp)
- Load StereoTool DSP in Winamp and press Reset (Beta20)
- set post amp to 0.80x
- Turn on only deClip and Set first slider to about -13dB

Also, your nag message kicking in every 60 seconds pushes the dB value through the roof, so the filter disables when that kicks in,
You have beta020? i don't hear spot anymore
I'm a non-registered user. I understand why he has it there, but, IMO, it's not anywhere near a good enough product to even worry about restricting non-registered users yet.

Try this.. Play in Winamp and adjust PreAmp in winamp to match almost to the and of input meter of StereoTool.
I now have preamp at max in Winamp and yeah, it works better...whatever that means... :?

Edit: I should clarify. I have +12 dB preamp now in Winamp, with a 0 dB (x1.00) preamp in Stereo Tool. With the 4x setting in the filter, I'm all the way down at 0.29 postamp in ST and still have major overshooting going on, and that's with all other filters turned off too...

Brian: Have you checked the before-and-after files on the forum? THAT is the effect that you should get. It SHOULD be really spectacular.

Yes. That's what I meant by telling you that I've Read The Ffin' Manual... ;)

With what Bojcha just advised, I can hear improvement, but I've maxed out the preamp in Winamp and I have no idea what that's going to do with listening to the rest of my music... :?

Nothing good I guess. But that should not be needed (see Bojcha's later post - that's exactly how I did it, and it works fine here...)

Just to be sure: Do you consider the difference between the original and processed track to be big?

That makes sense. I've clipped the audio at 25%! So peaks SHOULD be getting about 4 times as high - that's what I put in! This filter RESTORES lost peaks - loud peaks means that it was recorded too loud (as is the case with many modern CD's).

So:
1. Original signal
2. Clip at 25%
3. Declip - restores (approximately) original signal (the difference, both in audio and in peak level, is very small).

Yeah, the whole reset / 0.80x stuff is fine, but that is with absolutely everything disabled.

That's what a real-world development shop would call a Proof of Concept and/or prototype.

I'll start re-enabling other filters and see what happens.

Edit: OK, I've reloaded the preset, which I've renamed "CrankAndClip" and have it adjusted to the same 1x preamp, 0.80x postamp, and it's still ok, so the issue is with pre/post amp and interaction with Winamp's EQ. I had the EQ flat, but using a -6 (or was it -8) preamp value over in Winamp. Will have to see what this does to other listening...

@Bojcha, is the spot now also gone with the stand alone version for registered users?

Yes.

Red bars on INPUT (top meters) with Winamp EQ turned off and preamp in ST all the way down to 0.01. Sound is very dull now. Going to try to go back to all of my original settings and then see how things work...

Back to no impact on the original wav file unless I use the tilt settings.

Something just isn't playing right with the Winamp EQ, but disabling the Winamp EQ and changing pre / post values in ST causes overshoots on input and a generally dull sound.

I think I'll wait for another version...
