Just to make sure what you're saying here... Is the output level much lower or do you mean that there's much more low? I would think the first, but I don't understand why you add the "ST with little less loudness"...
No i think that clean an strong low bass cant be done with that much Loudnes (e.g. x2.70)
So i Fire up BBP and "plutonium" (most favortite preset for most people) .. and what i see level is much lower but yes, bass is strong.
So i start ST and with Loudnes to just x1.50 i get a bit higher level and room for uping bass even more, and highs too.

more:
Difference between loudnes on x1 and x3 is not only in level .. for my ear it add more mid tones and high (mid-highs mostly) so with less loudness .. yes .. there is more bass with less loudness. That what im am hearing.

True. Loud bass sounds often already use the entire amplitude range of the waveform, so making them louder is difficult. Higher sounds usually have a far lower amplitude, which makes them much easier to amplify. So, bass (or actually, loud sounds) is usually the first thing to go when using a lot of Loudness.

Still, I think it might be possible to increase the bass level a bit IF I can better detect distortion. (Try setting the "allow more bass" slider to 4000, you'll get a bit more bass but also more distortion. Now if I could move this slider down automatically when I detect distortion, many - but not all - bass sounds could be made a bit louder.

New update.

It's basically the same thing as the previous update, but it turned out that I hadn't configured it correctly. Plus, now it responds to the Loudness setting - if you set Loudness lower it has less effect.

I'm getting MUCH more bass now with very little distortion - at a cost though: The bass itself sounds bad if it gets really loud. But I think I can fix that in a later step. First I'm curious if this makes people happy :D .

The update can be found here:
Winamp plugin (DLL, save in C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins) : http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_rt4.dll

Settings for more bass, copied from a previous post and slightly modified (!):

** HINT: Don't make all these changes at once. Each of these steps increases the bass level, continue only as far as needed.
Quote:
Change w.r.t. version 4.10: Loud bass now sounds out-of-tune, but does not distort highs anymore. Out-of-tune bass sounds should be less notable than distorted highs.

I'm getting good results using the following settings:
Start by selecting preset "FM Loud". Then make the following changes:
1. Loudness: Set "Allow louder lows" to 4000 (increases punch and overall bass level)
2. Multiband: Set the first 3 "down speed divider (decay)" sliders to .0001, .0002, .0003. (increases punch)
3. Multiband: Set the first 3 "soft limit" sliders to 7.29, 7.97, 7.63. (increases punch)
4: Pre Limiter: Set the bass band soft limit (top left slider) to 43.22. (increases overall bass level)
5. Multiband: Enable the equalizer, set the first 3 bands to 1.24, 1.24 and 1.12. (Make sure "Before multiband" is disabled) (increases overall bass level)

Yes this is a great improvement hvz!

But as you said, when i have loud basses they sound not very nice indeed.

As you might heard (in my earlier post) my sort of music is mostly not fitted whit huge and loud basses, so lucky for me i think. But a update should be nice i think :)

I think also that it is really possible to have that big "orban" basses whit software processing.

So if you would like make the (loud) bass sound better, i would be very grateful :)

Thanks in advance agian, and good luck of course

Karl,

Well, improving the "bad bass" is going to be the next step. I think it's possible - I'm not sure if I can make it as clean as it was without the increased bass level, but it's definitely possible to get a lot closer to it than it is now.

I just want to be sure first that this is really going to make a difference, before spending too much time on it.

Hint: To reduce the "bad bass" sounds right now, lower the bass clippers in the multiband compressor. That reduces loud spikes in the bass level. You'll loose some punch this way - but right now the punchy bass is probably what's sounding bad.

Loudness can be set as you like. Please try the same value that you usually use - it SHOULD work now at the same loudness values (or at least almost the same loudness values).

File size should be 1.383.424. I've just downloaded it here and I am indeed getting that size.

Hans, I'm using the latest rt4 version for hiphop music. I hear a 'rounder' bass sound, to my ears the bass sounds less flat. About the Orban sound, I think the bass sound of an Orban is more characteristic than extreme loud. I will keep the rt4 version on air for the rap guys, see how it goes.

UPDATE: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... imiter.dll

Bass level is roughly the same as in the previous version (0.15 dB softer at 55 Hz), but most (almost all) of the "bad sound" is gone!

Let me know how it sounds - I'll make a new version later where the "bass protection level" can be set (higher for more distortion and more bass, lower for less distortion and less bass). The "less distortion and less bass" will be good news also for people who don't need the extra bass - it protects better against distortion and will hence make the sound cleaner. (If set at a lower value than the hard coded value that's there now).

Wow great inprovement I think! A less bad sounds now indeed!
I think you will do a great job by making that bass protection level "thing", because everybody has different music and then they could choose their bass level they would like to have. And also as you said people who doesnt need more bass have better protection agianst distortion.

thanks & good luck making the new version! (would you make this also in a standalone version? thanks in advance!)
