I'm not going into the details here, just want to add to the discussion that for proper AGC functionality it's very important that the up and down speeds match. For example extremely fast down + very slow up causes tracks with lots of dynamics (like 'Abba - Gimme Gimme Gimme') to be dropped too much, etc.

The default settings were made based on an analysis of a number of very different tracks, with output RMS volume measurements.

I've been flipping between presets the last half hour, and this one is the best I've found. I haven't checked any AGC behavior etc, but the sound itself (when switching between all the built-in presets and the ones posted in this form) is really superior. It really brings out the details without sounding 'unstable' (as many others do).

On my equipment of course - I know that that makes a lot of difference. (If you have cheap speakers, unstable probably sounds really good).

Looking at your settings (I had to type them all into the software :-) ) I noticed some strange things, but apparently you really know what you're doing...

@michi about AGC: There's one AGC-related setting that I've currently hardcoded in software. Without that (or better, with it configured incorrectly), there can be huge differences in output levels even if sounds are coming in at the same RMS level. Like I said, I've currently hardcoded it - I guess I should add it as a slider so if a preset needs it the value can be changed.

This is the issue: Say you have 2 tracks: One with constant RMS volume, and one with loud spikes like Gimme Gimme Gimme. Then the 2nd track contains should louder spikes, but in total the RMS level is equal. The problem: "down speed" lowers the sound during those spikes, but does nothing to the constant RMS level track. And hence lowers one but not the other - which is bad because the initial RMS levels were equal.

I have implemented something to solve this, and based on the worst tracks that I know it should function properly - but it's of course very well possible that you've found other tracks where it doesn't and needs calibration. Which is currently not possible.

(I've added an item to my TODO list for after the release of version 5.10).

@ Hans

Here you find (maybe based on a naive nonsense concept ?) suggestions and ideas for AGC change:

i Found to changes/mistakes in preset

- In both Streaming and FM preset Last EQ band in MB should be at +1.56 (same as 9th band)
- In Streaming preset "DC remove" should be off - That's mistake.

Hans can you update? in one of next betas/verisons ?

For FM preset it's important to keep "Composite Limiter" at 105%

Hi Garfield and tnx...

Preset v9 and v10 had some distortions, in some tracks now all gone, and even v11 is sligtly louder.
I was able to fix it by selecting "no-phase-linear" Bandpass, but is wanted to be Phase Linear always, so i found another way.
