BETA123:
- Also fixed a bug in Steepness artifact protection (was not cleared properly when it was turned off).
I now have the artifact protection lighter bars on multiple (all?) frequency bands, including way up at 15K (last band, aka "bin"). Turning it off does not change it. DSP version.
True. These bars now display the actual output amplification (there are more things than just artifact protection that causes the output to be lowered!). Before they did not. Audio should not have changed.

For example, I don't allow one band to be much louder than the two adjacent bands. That has always been the case, but it has never been displayed.
Then, honestly, you need to make that sort of change a LOT more clear. Previously that was only shown as the artifact protection, but now it means something COMPLETELY different. Your description of this change was tacked onto the end of the mention about the band 1+2 code, which implies that you were displaying the output of the linkage differently, not the entire frequency spectrum.

As a developer myself, one that had to deal with mountains of paperwork to document even the smallest of changes, the change you made presents itself as a bug, when according to you it is not. Very frustrating...

Further, how do you now expect someone to know what is artifact protection and what is something else, when everything is all jumbled together?

@Brian: I *think* that this new display is actually an improvement over the old behavior. Basically, what you are seeing is the actual amplification levels that are applied per band. Previously that was not the case.

I agree that I didn't make this very clear - actually I had very little time to post *and test* the update (I posted it in the morning before I went to work after it had built during the night).

What is displayed now is:
- Light color: The amplification level per band, with no interaction between bands.
- Dark color: The actual amplification that's applied to each band.

Artifact protection is indeed not separately visible anymore.

I don't understand what's happening in your case?

The option itself should be saved, but not the 3 sliders below it (because they are still under development and are very likely to be changed).

Can you tell me *exactly* what you are doing, step by step? I've tried to reproduce it based on what you wrote and nothing strange happens. Are you using the stand alone, VST, Winamp plugin version? And what do you mean by "television"?!

Then how is one to know if there is any happening or not? If you can't see it, it somewhat negates the usefulness of the steepness slider.

Wooh! Is the audio still being processed when this happens?

Hm, this is scary!

I attached a debugger and did exactly what you did in your video. No crashes, but when I hover over a file name, at the moment the yellow popup appears I see this:
'winamp.exe': Loaded 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\pdfshell.dll', No symbols loaded.
'winamp.exe': Unloaded 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\pdfshell.dll'

So apparently something from Adobe Acrobat is loaded and unloaded every time such a popup appears, at least on my system!

Since Acrobat is not a part of Windows, this apparently means that any program can 'hijack' this behavior. And if such a program causes a crash I think I have no way of handling it.

I will add a try/catch construction around the code that opens this window, hope that will fix things. But this is really bad! Basically, you apparently have _some_ program on your harddisk that causes this crash.
