Example1 - 'Bass Harmonics vs strange sound vs punch' - beta100
In pack is preset, original sample, sample w/ protection ON, sample w/ protection OFF.
Sensitivity is at x10.00, but that's amount of protection when other sound are present.

So question is, what sample you think sounds better ? w/ or w/o protection.

Ah, this is that pre-ringing issue again. So not really loss of punch - well that also occurs but the pre-ringing is what's really causing it to sound worse. (And it is increased if you enable HPF). Most of it is already present before Loudness - only it i more noticeable afterwards because Loudness reduces the kick itself and not the pre-ringing.

I have a filter that should remove pre-ringing, I'll have to check why it doesn't.

ok i'll say what is better. Ofcourse without protection.

pre-ringing: also removes start of that loud kick-in... and true, not only HPF is problem. That's why i sad HPF (phase-linear) should be moved before AGC, and twice stronger.

That would make things twice as bad, and then on top of that even worse  .

I don't yet fully understand why the difference between with and without protection is so big - the bass waveform itself still looks flat with protection enabled. Will look into it tonight.

Edit: Old style protection sounds BETTER here than new style. Something really weird is going on.

That is what i don't like most..
Thing are even worse if i set final bass to about 80 or 77%.. that's about -1 - 1.5dB.

Maybe because you do same thing twice! Actually 3 times. first at Multiband, then in loudness, and aditional clip/limit at protection. As i said, atleast at "protection" this can be avoided by 2-band loudness (described erlier)

Hans, i hate it to say that, but to me beta69 sounds better than every version after this one (no FM processing, just mp3 listening). No bass distortion, no exessive highs, mids are clear. And if i switch natural dynamics off - CPU load = 10%. Actual betas are around 20% ;)

So, can you try to describe what is wrong in the latest version?

Hmm, hard to describe. In songs with deep bass the mids are muted with every kick. It sounds like a "pumping" song. Or the highs are very loud. But i know, last betas surely need a overall reset in the .sts file, i´m using still my old .sts because i need a basis for comparison. Thatswhy i cannot really say if actual betas are better or worse, it just sounds worse to me than the old beta69. :D

I think that beta79 is the one ...
For the CPU load that it has .. and the quality that brings .. i think this is the perfect version.
For my settings it seems bass protection is more strict.

New betas - i don`t see how much loudness reduce the level for the necessary frequencies - this is the reason to ask will the indicator work again.
My sound is not 0db saturated ... like the output indicator stuck at 0 db - Nooo I don`t think so . Not anymore . Only may use the loudness about 1.30 - 1.40 for the FM ....you know ...... . Thats it .

:)
But I admire Hans`s work . Back in the years who knows or heard about Stereo signal came out from PC ?!?!??! Bet on that no one was .
