Hi Phoenix,

Just for my understanding:
By default settings, do you mean using the new clipping protection ('Advanced Bass Distortion Protection') enabled and the old one ('Old-style protections') disabled?
That's true. Clipping Strictness unaltered at 0. Previously I was using it at +10 for beta89.
Another thing, setting the parameter 'Extra loudness - New Bass Protection - Clip very deep bass at' to something substantially higher than the default of 0.71 gives much better (read fuller) sound. Might be because of the kind of content I am listening to. Still it's contemporary tracks which sounded dull because of depleted highs in betas prior 89.
So far I don't hear any distortions (of any kind) with the raised clip level for deep bass.
Note: My current setup involves using VST on my notebook's on-board sound solution. But I *expect* results to be better once I test it on my dekstop.
Again thanks for this excellent release!

BETA71 vs BETA96 - my opinion, very similar sound. Beta96 has a little more clarity on highs and a bit constant sound.

Ha! Now I've FINALLY figured out where those voice vibrations come from - and I think I can at least reduce them a lot without reducing the bass level.

Well, I do need to reduce the mid frequencies a bit. Which results in a slightly lower overall output level - say 0.8 dB lower on average.

I'll try if I can fix that. The thing is that the resulting audio also sounds a lot cleaner - not just the vibrating voices. Otherwise I could just enable this filter when need - bit it does so much that I want to try to keep it enabled at all times.

Will this show more with FM broadcasting, or will web streaming benefit from this change as well? Either way I'm still leaning toward BETA71ish still for getting the sounds I like. Both sound better than the 6.10 release to me. Highs are for sure clearer, but one thing to me is that bass seems stronger in 6.10 release than most of these betas so far. That is with just web streaming mind you. I don't do any FM broadcasting. Thanks for all your hard work, Hans. ST is still my go to DSP for web streaming.

-cm-

That's my two cents.

Hee Hans,

Groet,
René Nieuwenhuis

I haven't specifically tested web streaming, but I expect it to benefit from these changes as well - voice vibrations occur both for FM and web streaming. Until now the solution for both voice and highs vibrations was to lower the bass clipping level. That is now no longer needed - the output is now clean both for mids and highs even if I clip the bass at 0 dB.

I'm now building an update, the sound is really a lot cleaner (unfortunately the mids are also about 0.6 dB softer - total audio is about 0.15 dB softer). The new filter can be turned off by the way.

Nuke: When you test it, just make sure to set the bass clipping threshold to 0.90-1.00. That way you should get really loud bass.
