Quote: Quote: Is the clipper in BETA89 stricter than in BETA79? Even at Strictness=0? beta89 and 93 are same, only protection is different. |

Finnaly i have to say this : AFTER BETA 79 my preset sounds like garbage ( more than it is so, i finnaly chose beta 79 as my last ON AIR ( mountain , fm ) testing After this beta my preset needs ...re-adjustment... that DOESN t MEAN THAT AFTER BETA 79 betas are not good!! that MEANS that ALL the presets NEEDS RE-ADJUSTMENT !!!!!!! ALL ! ...that's all i have to say stereotool IS THE BEST REALTIME WINDOWS/LINUX AUDIO PROCESSOR EVER MADE! |

camclone i agree that stereo tool is the best. beta79 is still the best. i spent the past 2 weeks comparing 79 to 89. there is no comparison, 79 wins hands down. beta79 should be 6.20. the amount of re-adjustment is crazy i agree. |

maybe i will try. but for me, beta79 is perfect and it can make the sound i always wanted. i think the betas after 79 are going in the wrong direction. my preset uses the clipper but in 89 it just does not sound good. many spikes. maybe it is strictness slider but until that setting can be saved to STS file, i can not compare it equally with beta79. |

@baires I agree that beta92/93 is not ok. Already said, bad loudness protection. Between beta79 and beta 89 i would always choose beta89! In your case i can understand why you like more beta79. Answer is simple. You like more compressed sound and that's exactly what Loudness filter have more in beta79! That don't mean that beta79 is better! beta89 just yeld for better WB compressor now beffore loudness. You can always try to turn on singleband compressor in beta89 to import that compress component before loudness filter. But again personally i dont like that compressor, it's too much simple. And all should stop asking about no-saved settings. You realize that this is developement betas where that is not so imortant. It will certainly be in final version. |

good point bojcha. you know the sound i like! and i will not ask for save settings any more. i forget sometimes that they are betas. i will stay with beta79 unless hans makes a beta with more compression than 79. |

Hm, is it really that? I just compared an older version against the latest BETA with insanely overdriven input levels, and then the older version sounds better. Probably because there are much more protection steps. They may indeed have some benefit in some cases. But, without insane overdrive levels it will have the opposite effect: Reducing punch. Please keep one thing in mind: TO GET THE SAME OUTPUT LEVEL, YOU SHOULD SET THE LOUDNESS SLIDER LOWER THEN IN BETA079 AND EARLIER VERSIONS! The clipping is much tighter, you should really use a lower Loudness setting. Basically, there are now 3 different versions: - BETA079: Old-style clipping. Not very tight, so the output level is lower than it could (and imo should) be. - BETA089: New-style clipping, with old-style protection. The problem here is that the proctection needs some updates. - BETA094: New clipping, new protection. Issues: * Bass protection against bass harmonics is turned off. * Voice vibrations filter might be too strong (reduces the bass too much) I'm now going to add yet another version: BETA095: Warning: Not indended for broadcasting! In this version I'm trying out a new mechanism to reduce distortion of high frequencies due to loud bass. The mid frequencies are currently not protected - voice vibration protection is turned OFF! Winamp DSP plugin: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... 20-095.exe Stand alone version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... 20-095.exe VST version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... 20-095.dll NOT AVAILABLE VST version (No SSE2): http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... 20-095.dll NOT AVAILABLE Command line version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... 20-095.exe Linux command line version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... ETA620-095 NOT AVAILABLE Linux GUI version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... ETA620-095 NOT AVAILABLE While the filter seems to work well - it protects much better than before, and allows higher bass levels with less distortion than before - I'm hearing some weird things that I think were not present before; I'll try if I can find a reliable way to turn the new filter off when it's not needed. Please let me know what you think - if the other redesigned filters are not working I might combine this new filter with the BETA089-style original filters. |
