Hi Phoenix,
You might need to clean up your STS file (create a new one) - many settings (including these) have been removed.
Does the application write out a clean STS file with only the options currently available if you do a RESET and then save?

Edit: The reason I ask is because I just did that and the entries that you are telling Phoenix that have been "removed" are still very much there.

Jesse: Just got a message from Leif, declipper is now working completely in the Omnia 9!
Good news :) Time again for stereo tool.

No, it uses the INI interface of Windows. To get a clean file, write to a new STS file.

Time to complete clipper in ST!

Yup. And after looking at lots of waveforms and thinking about the cause of the bass protection issue, I might have found a way to get rid of this type of distortion similar to how the normal clipper works. I'll have to try it out - if it does indeed work it should give a big improvement to the sound. I'm not too sure yet though. And I don't know yet exactly what I should do to clean up the effect.

You had opportunity to listen O.9, just to listen, how that filter works. Now is even better then in BBP. But it's still good in current BBP too.

So, is it better for punch to go into hard clip or to go into compress or limit .. or combination of it?
Since we're talking about peak limiting, I can assume we're talking about a perception of punch...

To keep consistent perception of punch, it's all three...
1. slow attack & release compression with threshold set higher
2. limiting to prevent distortion from clipper
3. clipper set at level just before distorting other things

And key is to set the compression threshold so it's not too dense, and to set limiters so you get the right amount of harmonics from the bass clipper to maximize the perception of punch without distortion. (perception of punch from flat top is too easy)

Oddly, for S sounds on top of bass distortion we compared Stereo Tool against Omnia 9 using the exact same clipper input, and there were no differences - if any, Stereo Tool with the new protection (in the latest BETA) suffered slightly _less_ from S distortion but the bass was also dropped a bit more.

If my new idea works, it will be something that's really different which - as far as I know - no other product has.

Now I do have the impression that the Omnia 9 clipper handles voice vibrations much better. (But we haven't - yet - done an A/B test to be sure.). It would be very interesting to know if the difference is indeed in the clipper, or in earlier processing stages such as multiband compression, phase rotation etc.

That's generally how I'm setting up my loud presets for O9 so far, also with even higher treble priority. (-2.5/+9 ish)

Camclone will love that priority :)
