I guess I have to let it have more clipping phases (which increases the CPU load) - I guess I should add a slider to control the precision vs. CPU load. (Although on the audio I tested with the difference was small).

@Bojcha: O, about HARD LIMIT: Yeah that should actually clip. But when Loudness gets better it has less to do and it doesn't matter much anymore. It's basically a safety limiter for things that are hard to clip.

I tried the same and got similar results:
79 = reference at 0dB
80 = -0.41 dB
81 = -0.07 dB

So if you normalize this back to 0dB you'll see that the output from version 80 is louder then version 81.

betwen 79 and 81 the high-medium is lower in 81

The 79 is very good!

@Hans,

What is the direction you are going for with Stereo Tool? Meaning, with ST there is a very "harsh" sound with transients regardless of preset. I posted a thread about a radio station's sound. I have no clue if they use Omnia, Optimod, or what but the sound of all the transients is very smoothed over. Nothing is harsh and sharp if that makes sense. So, is Stereo Tool able to achieve that type of sound? Is that what you are aiming for or steering away from? And if it's not possible, why? Is it a question of the multiband compressor?

To me, and I'm sure to many others, that smoothed over sound is very appealing and I think it is important that Stereo Tool can achieve that sound somehow or another.

This is one thing with Stereo Tool that has always bothered me and made me wonder.

I am interested in this too. Still using Beta66 with Natural Dynamics.

Without directly going into the sound of the station you mention: I did just compare BETA079 against the latest BETA, and 079 sounds better. So I must be doing something wrong.

Edit:
About the sound of that station: I think you should be able to get something like that using a combination of:
- Multiband with strong clipping (to remove punch)
- Low Loudness value (low density of the sound)

I'll listen a bit more later

Interesting. I will play around with that idea a little. It just surprises me that no preset I've tried makes that sound. What i mean by that is, I can manually do what you suggested but that means no other person tried that with a preset, which is what I find strange.

But when you get more time to listen, please do. It's Top40 station so you should recognize every song and can easily compare (unlike a station I mentioned long, long time ago which was all rap music)

I'm looking forward to your opinions after listening for a longer time. Thanks.

Actually this is easy to make with Stereo Tool!

First, codec they use makes this sound to sound like this! Personaly i don't like sound like this, meaning on highs! Btw, they have some "hum", i think from wireing or bad power supply or something.

Aside codec and hum, Sound is not too much limited, if you want to replicate same RMS level you don't even need Loudness filter! Only Final Limiter. Maybe just maybe Loudness level to 1.01 (regardles of input level from Final limiter), because of loudness's other protection filter, which can be useful!
I am just listening ADELE (very popular track nowdays), and overall RMS level is very low. Before that some track was much louder.There is much Punch especially at mid-lows and lows and sounds very nice, some custom preset and sounds to me like OmniaONE.
So, if you want same sound don't worry about loudness filter in StereoTool, because you don't need it or you need it with very low levels.
If you wish i can try to make some preset like this. It should't take much time. But remember this codec makes this highs to sound like this! I think it's wma.
