Thank you so much for the referal of slider settings and the reference to SAM. I have all of SAM's stuff turned off. I am using ST for everything. I have played with enough of ST settings to have it sound very good (for me). I have to understand that I set it up to sound nice here, and let everyone else worry about their own settings when listening. Most listeners do anyway. Question: Do any of the registered features affect a web station? Is there anything that I might be able to use? I am not afraid to register a program. I have many registered utils and programs. I appreciate the authors efforts. Lastly: I appreciate the suggestion on the rip levels. I rip at 89.3 but found that it sounds better at 85%. I also discovered that reducing the level of ST's output sounds better too. I am learning. After 23 years of radio, I am aware of some of this stuff - but always had good engineers do the tweaking. I am just very dissapointed in the recording of the newer music. Some of it is just not capable of being cleaned up. Oh, last question: I know about the fact that a "copy of a copy" can loose quality. So I encourage all my submissions to send me a CD and I do the rip myself. But I belong to a digital music source that sends their stuff in WAV format. I also have another one that uses MP4. I have a program to convert it - but it never seems to sound good. Any suggestions on a conversion utility? |

The registered version mainly gives you a much louder sound (up to about +12 dB). (You can try all the paid options without registering, you'll just get a spoken message in your stream every 12 hours. But for trying that shouldn't be a problem.) For FM stations the registered version offers a lot more. But that's probably not very interesting for you. I don't know about MP4 - I do know that for MP3 there are big differences in sound quality between different decoders. So trying a few might help. |

Hello all, As far as I'm concerned -- once a file has been converted to mp4 - it's ruined for reconversion. If you'll do some research on Acc or AccPlus encoding .. you'll find out why. Mp4 runs through two different conversions. One for two channel to single channel encoding, and the other for compression. Mp3 on the other hand, only does compression. To convert from mp3 to mp4 is so-so okay, but mp4 to mp3 or anything else will result in degraded audio. I personally, stay as far away from Mp4 as I can. Mp3Pro basically does the same type of encoding as Mp4. Albeit, a little different. Not to say that it doesn't have a place in the market. It's just too low end for me. Just an example .. encode an mp4 at 64kbps and encode an mp3 at 128kbps. The two should be EQUAL in audio according to the research. Listen closely .. you'll find that an mp4 is lacking in depth/bass. Nice technology - but hyped. For more info on Acc/Mp4, check out: http://www.jeroenbreebaart.com/research ... stereo.htm http://www.codingtechnologies.com/products/aacPlus.htm cheers! |

With Stereo Tool, it is the only thing I have for processing with SAM, I have it where I like the sound. What slider is causing the volume to go up and down. If I listen to SAM output it sounds real even and good. But Stereo Tool is adjusting the volume. How can I get it to stop that? |

I didn't notice any detectable volume changes on my system. Perhaps it's because AGC is enabled in SAM on yours? One thing I did notice .. the settings you have now is below the "soft compression" setting in Stereo Tool. It's not being driven hard enough to effect too much change. Look at your output bars at top right of Stereo Tool. You should at least get 2/3rds movement, if not about 4/5ths. Try using "normal compression" and go from there. One thing you might be fighting is your computers volume control. Try setting "master" and "wave" at about 1/2 each .. then adjust "wave" as needed. |
