Well you could just increase the input level of the preset, say +10 dB, and decrease the output level (of the preset or your amplifier) by the same amount, i.e. -10 dB. (As far as I remember RG normalizes to -14 dBFS, but it isn't peak based, so you probably cannot use that exact number.) Of course ST processing will alter the loudness itself though, usually making it even more consistent. So everything should work out nicely. |

The stand alone version has a slider for this, the plug-ins don't... and I guess they should as well. For now, try what happens if you increase Pre Amp and (very important!!) disable the noise gate. |

Bojcha's preset does have an better control of the loud S sounds, but overall the sound is not what i'm looking for. I know that Hans' motivation for StereoTool is that some processors make the s sound like an f or something like that. Hans does not like that, and voila, Stereotool was born. So if Hans decides to leave it this way, i'm fine with it, but i think i will go look for another processor because i can't stand the 'overshooting' S. |

Sure it does. "Sound" is something else.I know that Hans' motivation for StereoTool is that some processors make the s sound like an f or something like that. Hans does not like that, and voila, Stereotool was born. So if Hans decides to leave it this way, i'm fine with it, but i think i will go look for another processor because i can't stand the 'overshooting' S. Also when you find other processor let us know what it is. I'm really interested to see how it wll control loud "S" sounds without killing transients in that area. |

I will try and make an recording today of the rousing s that im annoyed by. Im also going to try and record some other stations, and the way they handle with that. It is really very clear noticable so that should make it easy to detect in software i guess? Maybe the frequency de esser could have a strictness slider which determines the ratio between aggressive de-essing and killing transients? To be continued tonight.... |

There is no de-esser in any other FM processor. What you hear on radio is HF clipper/limiter. And that's why i recomended last band limiter. Also you an tune how wide will that band be, limiter speed or even tu use MB 2 for all that. |
