UPDATE:

Based on the experience of someone using ST 7.40 on Debian Wheezy x64 without any issues, I decided to install Debian Jessie and give it a try. ST 7.70 is working with mixed results on Debian Jessie x64, so far. It seems to start (every time) but it has crashed several times on me... I'll drive it hard tonight and tomorrow and provide another update. If it continues to crash, then I'll try in on Wheezy. If it still crashes, then maybe I can get a copy of 7.40 until the kinks are ironed out on 7.70?

Just now, in the time it took to write that paragraph, it literally crashed when I clicked on the processing button. Restarted ST and it came back up...

hmmmm, clicked on the processing button and killed it again!

OK, I can confirm that it crashes each time I click "processing."

UPDATE:

Didn't make it through the night. Still crashing and now it won't restart again. :-/ It flashes for a millisecond and then disappears. Pretty much replicating the same behavior as Ubuntu 14.04 x64, with one of the same errors so far:

$ ./stereo_tool_gui_64
jack_client_new: deprecated
SA Stereo Tool 7.70 (for Linux with Jack) (C) Hans van Zutphen, 2001-2015
Segmentation fault

Hope to have time tomorrow night to install Wheezy x64.

Any ideas, Hans?

For testing purposes I'm running Rivendell/Stereo Tool/Harrison Mixbus together.
Mixbus is recording in real time on two tracks, one for the raw audio from Rivendell the other the processed one from ST.

I'll let them run through the night and see what happens. Usually it runs ok.
(Ubuntu 14.04 LTS)

Edit: After 13 hours no problems at all. (64 bit version)

I have it running(7.7) on Debian Jessie(8) x64
I've also had the segmentation fault before, even did a clean install of Debian and then it was working for a moment, but after a while got the segmentation fault again, it came when i clicked on the prcessing "tab".
I think i've selected a other preset and after that i didn't had that error anymore.
What i've also noticed is that the web-interface works verry badly, it's verry slow at first load and after that i only got page not found errors, maybe because the CPU is busy?

I also reinstalled Debian Jessie(8) x64 again... and so far 7.7 opens on reboot and stays open! I've been getting some glitching and drop-outs though. I remembered that I had enabled the web UI, so I disabled it. Glitching and drop-outs have definitely minimized, but I also increased the frames/period in jack from 1024 to 2048. Good tip loading a different preset (although that will only help if ST opens).

I haven't specifically tested the web interface on Linux - I guess I should........ and test other things as well. I did run Stereo Tool (without web interface) with Valgrind though which didn't show any warnings... It might be related to the earlier problems (very large list of settings, which with very highly optimized compiler settings would crash - probably (this is a guess) due to a stack problem - on Ubuntu 13 and 14 but worked fine on 12 and 13. Although that was the 32 bit version.....

Post subject:  Re: Linux version not working?...

I have just posted a new Linux beta which according to Valgrind should be fine. Of course that was also the case before... Anyway, the Processing tab works fine here, a lot of things are changed, among others the memory usage is reduced a lot. I hope that this new version is ok now.

You can find it under News -> Stereo Tool 7.71 BETA -> last page (BETA771-025).
