I'm not sure if this is any good, but here's a version with a different AGC: 'up speed' is now no longer controlled by how far the volume is dropped, but by how much difference there is between the current amplification and the maximum amplification possible at each moment. So now the volume goes up in a constant speed (dB/s) instead of fast when the volume is really low and slowly if it's near the top. This has quite some impact on the AGC behavior - feedback is welcome....

(Actually I only changed 2 lines of code, but the difference is pretty big).

Note: I just realized that this change also impact the de-esser filter in Loudness, probably in a bad way...

You probably need to increase Up Speed - it works MUCH slower than before for most tracks.

Increasing Up Speed has little effect for tracks with a very constant volume - and for tracks with much dynamic differences you WANT to make it act more aggressive.

I have increased Up Speed from 0.800 (default) to around 10.0 to get good results. Also make sure not to set Down Speed too high (not above ~ 10).


Question: Are you comparing ITU-1770 differences? Because - since I've disabled ITU-1770 processing - that might have a big impact, especially since this Abba track has little highs. And highs are counted more strongly in ITU-1770.

Maybe - just maybe - ITU-1770 is possible again with this new AGC processing (because I think it might impact loud voices such as in that Celine Dion Titanic track a bit less).

I already done that and other presets and all combinations... in current preset i already have up speed to 1.767 and down to 11.728.
..i just compared with v6.10.
Dynamic tracks are about at same level, but louder track are, maybe 0.5dB lower in 620b002

Yes... There's a 'brake' in the current implementation: Up speed is multiplied by something like 1 - (current input level / previous peak level) - so if the input volume is reduced slightly, up speed is far smaller than the specified setting.

But actually I think adding ITU-1770 again will have far more impact.

Too good a change. Very constant volume with Preamp 10~18 and AGC settings of 10.0/10.0(I disabled Bass AGC for the sound gets very boomy and induces pumping even after lowering the attack/release settings).
A small caveat when (not because of AGC) used with Multiband...probably got to do with the fact that MB doesnot have lookahead I guess....Sound with just AGC enabled is remarkably constant, but begins to pump or breathe as MB is enabled. Effect is more felt with Top Limiter set to Limit than when set to Compress. But no gripes with AGC alone.
Does enabling ITU-1770 in sts Enable it in Stereo Tool really for now?
