Hi!

I really don't know if this is achievable already, but if stereo input is out of balance due to bad recording or some other reason, could there be a filter before other processing that adapts to a situation where there would be several dB's of difference between channels. Yes, another Breakaway related wish, this was done by Leif in external plugin. That plugin adjusts stereo balance with configurable time constant, so it doesn't affect momentary balance.

Brakaway's (core) filters does not process channels separately. So it needs something like that.

StereoTool Does.

Plus, isn't that what Azimuth correction is doing? At least in part? Or am I missing something?

Sure. Did you ever tuned that little screw on cassette deck's head? Well "azimuth" in ST do that automaticly. :)

Bojcha, I get that but how does that even translate into digital? As always, I appreciate your kind and thorough explanations!

Well there is still plenty tracks that they are mastered on tapes for CDs. There is always some azimuth especially if we know that usually tape itself changes unit before mastering for CD and their heads are never in exact same position.

Here is interesting track: Bobby Goldsboro - Honey
Intersting is that it seems music is recorded on one tape (and master seems is form that same tape), voice is recorded from other tape. So you can see azimuth graph goes bit to left whenever singer sings. When there is music it goes back to center.

Best to notice difference, when you see track like that, is to listen mono.

Thanks again, Bojcha! I appreciate your insight! So, because ST processes left and right audio separately, as Hans mentioned, an auto balance feature is not needed. I think I understand it now!

Thanks!

Yes, azumuth has nothing with 'balance' All other filters can be adjusted from 0 to 100% to process channels separately. Except MB Limiters and Clipper. Both are always at 100% separate channel processing.
