Thanks for you post RobertSack. Interesting reading! I guess that many of us have tried that 'exaggerated' sound before realising the pitfalls.
At one point, there was quite a bit of talk of the differences between the Stereomaxx and 222A from their individual proponents / fans?
Thank you, 2Sense, for your Kind words.
The latter one is in deed a "talk-about"
At first Hans`s ACR- Stereo is better than the original 222A.
With the original unit you only have one control:
You have to turn it to about "4" to hear something of ist effect, but if you go only a bit above this, you hear unwanted side- effects: (I assume you know the working principal of the 222A)
-you will get a Kind of "pumping", you hear the unit working and
-the unit emphasizes or accents wrong parts/passages.
ACR- Stereo in ST is ultra- tunable. So with an invest of a bit time (in difference mode) you can achieve that only the parts you want are empasized and so create a special kind of punch and wideness.
It's more consistent than the 222A.
Another Point is, with more multiband compression you decrease the spatial Image with. So, in this case more enhancement is needed and the Stereomaxx maybe one of the better choices.
This maybe one of the reasons why both types of enhancement are available in the newer Optimods in addition to the AGC Sum/Dif- Matrix- Mode.

Robert
