Stereo Tool 7.50 is available! Biggest improvement is the new stereo enhancer. And for Linux users, there's now a 64 bit Linux version, so you shouldn't need to install a lot of 32-bit libraries anymore.

See http://www.stereotool.com/download/
  • Added new ACR (Attack Controlled Repeat) Stereo enhancer. Gives better control over amount of stereo, sounds more sparkling and can be set to boost transients more. You should probably turn Stereo Boost off when using this.
  • Stand alone version: Added Balance slider for input sound card.
  • Added 64 bit Linux versions. Should remove the need to install lots of 32 bit libraries.
  • CPU load: Issues on single-core systems in versions 7.43 and 7.44 are gone again.
  • GUI: Made Extreme Tweaker mode less accessible. Contains options that you should never touch. Now first shows confirmation window.
  • GUI: Made all Stereo on/off switches available in Stereo overview panel.
  • Bug fix: Natural Dynamics boosted certain bands (esp. bass) too long and too much in versions 7.43 and 7.44.
  • Bug fix: Memory leak in Mac VST GUI nearly completely removed. Might fix some issues.
  • Bug fix: ASIO code could crash on buffer size changes (very rarely).
  • Amateur/HAM radio: SCA encoding now available in plugin versions. (Requires Extreme Tweaker mode).
  • Presets: Added some presets.

I would like to second that. 7.50 sounds exquisite! Smoother sound with nary any pumping compared to 7.40. The new ACR stereo sounds fabulous too.

I'm now using the Winamp plugin version of ST which precludes using the stand alone version with two virtual audio cables (VAC). Hence, less susceptibility to time phase shifting and jitter. Great progress all over!

Yes - brilliant job Hans. New Stereo enhancer is a *huge* improvement, and ST just sounds better overall than 7.42 - though not sure I can explain why looking at the change log between the 2 versions. But it just does. Best sounding ST release yet. Amazing what you've achieved with a pre-emphasis curve in the way - the top end is so much more open than the Orban 8500's in this market.

Small update: There was a small bug in the stand alone versions (the sound card selection was disabled in certain situations while it should be enabled). Since this can be very confusing I've rebuilt the stand alone versions with a fix - even the file sizes didn't change so if it doesn't bother you just don't worry about it. If it does, you can redownload the stand alone versions now.

Help page updated for ACR Stereo:

Note: I haven't described all the settings in Extreme Tweaker mode, but you really shouldn't use that mode anyway...
