Probably the sample rates don't match. If the VLC input is at 44.1 kHz, the output will be at 176.4 kHz, for 48 kHz that's 192 kHz. If you configure this incorrectly in Windows you'll get this type of weird stuff due to the bad resampling code in Windows.

Aah, yes, that makes sense So, would it be possible to add parameters to tell VLC to resample from 44,1 to 48 kHz?
