BETA090:
- Optimized upsampled clipping performance at lower strictness settings
BETA091:
- Optimized upsampled clipping performance also at normal strictness settings

So 89 and 91 should be more or less identical. Maybe slightly less strict clipping in 091, but the CPU load is a lot lower too.

I'l do some comparisons of 089 vs. the latest version - see what's different.

Hm, some pretty dramatic differences indeed. I'm now comparing 091 vs 095, and playing a track with very loud bass sounds in 095 I'm getting almost 3 dB higher bass levels. Not sure if that's good though - they might be more distorted. And at least I'm getting effects at the highs that I don't want (they are better in 091).

Edit: If I feed it audio that doesn't contain extreme bass etc. the difference is very very small. The output level and frequency content are nearly identical (+/- 0.1 dB). But the bass sounds better in 091, and the highs are less distorted.

I'll put the 2 versions side-by-side and try to replicate the better quality of 091 in the 095 implementation (which should use far less CPU power).

I still did not try latest beta95, but i can say next...
It's not point where you have more bass or less. Anyway loudness (limiter) is same! It's only about protection, meaning.. if is needed to get bass lower by even 50% to avoid distortion in mids/higs, so be it. But in same time to avoid unnecessarily lowering bass sounds where distortion would not happen at first place.

Best protecting i can adjust in betas ..89.90, 91 (new loudness), but most time bass is lowered when it's not necessarily needed, where in final output i get lower bass and worse quality bass because "strict clip" at 50% makes bass to sound like 'knocking wood'.

Testing beta95 stand alone, it sounds very bad.
Testing winamp version it's completely different then standalone version.

EDIT: I see stand alone was on 192 kHz, on 48 kHz it's different.
So this version is indeed very bad for broadcast.

Warning: Not indended for broadcasting!
I think that this beta is doin the best in broadcasting !!!!!
This is not a warning but the true !
Bass is not distorted when stop for a piece of the song and came back again
I have a song that is a loud bass and when bass stops .... and came let`s say after 10 or more seconds ... it`s distorted and then AGC fall down the bass but first one or two kicks are horrible and then everything is normal

but now this is fixed !!!!! song plays good in the air .
So HAns is taking the right way

For optional tests i can attach two STS files : one for FM and one for normal listening.
If yo want to make tests for how ST is behaving - test with them ..
only optional you can add loudness or other boost settings to test them....
If anyone wants ...

P.S: I test the bass problem with the 400Hz annoying sound .. Multiband is OFF , AGC OFF , loudness OFF .. if you dont believe me everything is OFF only sound is through ST and this problem is there .. i can upload file to listen . And question is : what is causing this arround 400 Hz unwanted sounds . Something in Output or INPUT interfaces ?

@Hans - You are still lowering bass before clipping (pre-clip)? it should be lowered after.
How do you guarantee that lowered bass, by protection, before clipping will not reach 100% bass level.

It's not necessary to ensure that it's not above 100% before clipping, it's just needed to reduce it enough to prevent problems with mids/highs. ;) Sometimes that might even be less than 100%, are you asking if Stereo Tool's current protection is capable of that?

I should hope so, but that's a question for Mr. Hans. 8-)

Yes i am talking about StereoTool. But if i 'watch' BBP on scope i always see protection is lowering punched/clipped bass, which is normal if you know that clipper for bass is right after MB (for first two bands). So lowering happens around first band in 2-band limiter. right ? Or something else, it's right before limiter? like we see here http://www.claessonedwards.com/images/s ... s/core.png ? But that comes same.
Hans is doing it before that punch/clip, so if protection decide to lower bass for about 1dB, punched part remains and it will not be -1dB more likely will be again 0dB.
