 Post subject: ST for Preprocessing

Anyone else using ST for preprocessing (declip only) before another signal processor? If so I'm interested in what input level you use going into ST, and whether or not you use the final limiter for overshoot protection.

I have a feeling my anecdote will not help as you want, but here it is.

When I was messing around with ST as a preconditioner plugin (using Declipper, Natural Dynamics, TrueBass) I left the clipping and limiter off because of how the host software (BreakawayOne) handled peaks. That has since changed and I now use BreakawayOne in bypass mode for its I/O functionality, with ST doing all the processing.

Are you going out to a hardware processor or another software processor? I assume you're using the standalone version of Stereo Tool?

Yes - standalone ST is a preprocessor for the orban software downstream via Lynx sound cards. I don't allow declipper reconstruction to exceed headroom, so no need for any final limiting on the ST.
