One thing to add, which may spoil the party for you:

Tailscale does not have user accounts. You must setup an account with some SSO provider like GitHub or Microsoft which you can then use to access the admin console of your Tailscale VPN. On the free plan, there is only one such user allowed, so you have to share the account with your admin colleagues if you have some. We do the same at the regional non-profit stations where I'm helping with this stuff and share the account between us - it is only used for the Tailscale UI

Just tried the free version. Wow it looks easy! Pinging a remote machine via the VPN within a few minutes. Now to set it up on a live STL environment without outages!

Thanks so much for your help.
Yes, it is very well done and most importantly their docs are outstanding quality. It's everything in there, even the very low level aspects. Over time, you'll learn a lot!

Would you mind to share what your setup looks like? Like how many transmitters, studios,...?

I'm currently running 3 locations (each having up to 3 studios) with 6 FM transmitters. DAB+ is covered by an external provider.

That's fairly easy with µMPX. Just set your stereotool to "broadcast" to both your current address and the new VPN address. Then wait a couple of seconds while the decoder receives double packets and just drops the excess data. You might be able to see this on the decoder statistics. Then disable the "old" connection and the decoder will use the packets from the new connection instead with no noticable effect.

Another hint: make sure you have a peer to peer connections, you can see what you have on the console using the tailscale commands - see the docs how to see and mend it if needed.

Just got it working. STL keeps running without a flutter when either the normal or new VPN feeds is switched off at the encoder.

And so easy too!

Thanks for your brilliant help!
