We're building a new FM broadcast studio PC and would like to try Stereo Tool.

We have a spare Delta 1010 sound card and would like the opinion of the brain trust on the forum with regards how you rate these and their compatibility with Stereo Tool.

Has anyone used these in a broadcast environment and how would you rate them against the other similar priced cards out there? We are on a fairly tight budget if we decide to purchase another card.

BTW studio console is analog Soundcraft RM105 & FM transmitter is BW Broadcast TX1000.

Thank you.

David

Do you want to use Stereo Tool for stereo and RDS encoding? If so, you cannot output an MPX composite signal with this card because it doesn't reach the necessary sample rate... You need a 192 kHz card for that.

I've realized this a while ago, when hans has relased the first linux-version of ST with Jack-support, with GNURadio and an Ettus USRP-B100. My signal-path (which was composed in a shell-script) was:

mplayer -> jack -> stereotool l/r-in -> stereotool-mpx-out -> jack -> vlc media player -> stdout -> gnuradio-stdin-source -> usrp-sink -> ettus-b100

You have to built a GNURadio-Sketch with at least a simple level-adjustment to scale the mpx-output of ST to +-75 kHz deviation (for that, you need a modulation monitor). Set the samplerate in Jack and VLC to at least 128 kHz to get a proper MPX-signal to the USRP.
