Ok, I got the following question from a Stereo Tool user who just bought a pc and Marian Trace Alpha sound card to start using it on an FM station. Now it turns out that the motherboard of the pc has no PCI slots - only PCI Express...

I have no idea how to solve this, especially since all the other working sound cards that I know of (and I also checked some other sites) are *ALL* PCI cards.

Has anyone else here encountered this or does anyone know a solution/workaround? Thanks...

In short.. if it's needed to use Marian Trace, which should be case, only solution is to change/replace motherboard.
Afaik there is NO soundcard atm on PCI-E 1x that is good for FM, actually all of them are under 192kHz, becuse PCI-E 1x is just slower then PCI slot.

There IS soundcard for 16x PCI-E slot (or that's 8x) like this one..

But i am not sure that Creative Soundcards are good for FM/MPX.

Also there is soulution with external soundcard, but they are just not reliable for 24/7 use!

Yes I wouldn't trust creative when excellent sound quality is needed.

Will need to look for a pro audio grade sound card. Try looking for the brand M Audio

I wanted to buy the "Marian Trace Alpha", for use in FM radio, but I needed to know what is the right motherboard, not to have incompatibility issues ?

Any motherboard with PCI buses and whatever features you may require for the rest of the board. You can find PCI's in the latest boards too, just be careful not to choose the one without :)

Thanks, but please show an example, because most motherboards are the type PCIe and 64 bit and then are not compatible ...
Thank you

Also look here:

FYI - there are also risers that convert PCIE into PCI (like this http://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/ ... d~PEX1PCI1). But I wouldn't use this for a sound card. Spend just a little more money for a new MB with PCI slots ;)

ESU Juli is a great card, available in PCI express and a lot less than the Marian.

You can look also to the Asus Xonar serie sound card pci-e with 192Khz capability.
