Actually I own the UMC202HD and while it performs ok with StereoTool, I would really recommend you try another and way cheaper solution with an ALC4042 DAC, to be found in several USB-3.5 mm adapters. You can get them for like € 10 to € 15 or so.
The one I got (https://www.onlinekabelshop.nl/nedis-us ... 0-15-meter) totally outperforms the UHD202HD in terms of S/N ratio and phase error. Looking on an analyzer, the UHD202HD shows some really ugly spurious signals and increased noise floor above 100 kHz, which you don't want to bother your FM transmission with, should your modulator allow so ...
this economic solution is very interesting, could you confirm if it also acts as a capture device (line/mic input)? I see that it has a 4 pole jack (mic input)
Although the ALC4042 chipset supports ADC as well, I guess this product is wired for output only. You may try to open up the plastic casing to see if the PCB provide access to the inputs as well. Datasheet including pin-out for the ALC4042 https://www.audiosciencereview.com/foru ... df.116323/
Tnx

I am using a Roland "Quad Capture" USB sound device. With just a bit of LF Tilt compensation in ST, it reproduces textbook-perfect squarewaves down to 25 Hz! I'm not able to measure overshoot of the USB device by itself, but looking at the demodulated audio outputs of a Belar digital FM mod monitor, I see only about 5% overshoot....and that's probably in the transmitter, not the USB sound device. (So only 0.5db of lost loudness...not an issue.)

I bought this Nedis ALC4042 USB-C -> 3.5mm audio adapter as well.
https://www.onlinekabelshop.nl/nedis-us ... 59717.html
Unfortunately the output level is not as high as needed for my transmitter.

I measured a 0.51 Volt rms output level without any load.
According the datasheet the ALC4042 can deliver 1Vrms.
My 'transmitter' (a Marconi Instruments 2023) needs at least 0.75 Vrms for 75 khz fm bandwith.

If you can't increase the modulation sensitivity on the Marconi, you could amplify the level (in your case by about 6 dB) using a simple opamp circuit.
For the perfectionists amongst us, see the noise floor comparison between the ALC4042 and the UMC202HD: https://imgur.com/a/PcitKpA.
