Hello,

We are a illegal broadcasting station from Holland. We use Stereotool complete, so inclusive stereo and RDS. When we broadcast MP3 music we have a really nice sound, but when we use vinyl (7", singles) it produces a strange noice. If you listen very carefully you can hear it is like the sound of a helicopter. Is there anyone who is familiar with this? Or someone who knows what we have to do to remove this sound? Or a complete new preset?

Thank you for your time!

Greets,

Rick Bos

Hi Rick,

Any chance you're withing reception range of me (Veghel)? So I can tune in :-)

My guess is that your vinyl recordings have a DC offset, or (very well possibly with vinyl) very low rumbling sounds. Stereo Tool versions upto 4.22 don't handle those very well. Fortunately, there's a new version coming up which should solve this.

See the following thread:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1798

To get rid of the low frequencies without the 'helicopter' sound:
- Enable the bandpass filter
- In the bandpass filter window, set the highpass filter somewhere between 20 and 40 Hz (I think). This removes sounds below that frequency.
- Next, set 'phase linear' to 'NEVER' (3rd option). This selects a non-phase-linear, very steep highpass filter, which completely removes the low frequencies without causing 'helicopter' sounds.

Stereo Tool 5.00 isn't completely ready for release yet (I'm currently working on some fixes for bugs that have been reported for this beta), but it really outperforms version 4.22 in quality, latency and CPU load.

HI,

Thanks for your reply. I cannot try it at this moment, because we are not broadcasting that often. I will be able to test it again in September. Maybe even sooner, but I don't know for sure. As soon as I am going to try it, I will post it here or sent you a mail. Maybe you will be able to hear us, but I doubt it. But anyway, I will let you know! Thanks for now!

Rickie: You can of course also test it without actually broadcasting. But I expect that version 5.00 will be ready in a few days (some personal circumstances are causing a delay at the moment), then you can use the released version instead of a beta.
