Hi Rick,
Any chance you're withing reception range of me (Veghel)? So I can tune in
My guess is that your vinyl recordings have a DC offset, or (very well possibly with vinyl) very low rumbling sounds. Stereo Tool versions upto 4.22 don't handle those very well. Fortunately, there's a new version coming up which should solve this.
See the following thread:

To get rid of the low frequencies without the 'helicopter' sound:
- Enable the bandpass filter
- In the bandpass filter window, set the highpass filter somewhere between 20 and 40 Hz (I think). This removes sounds below that frequency.
- Next, set 'phase linear' to 'NEVER' (3rd option). This selects a non-phase-linear, very steep highpass filter, which completely removes the low frequencies without causing 'helicopter' sounds.
Stereo Tool 5.00 isn't completely ready for release yet (I'm currently working on some fixes for bugs that have been reported for this beta), but it really outperforms version 4.22 in quality, latency and CPU load.
