The demos for the Perfect Declipper3.01 VST seem\ amazing, but I can't get even a tiny bit of noticeable difference in reducing distortion.

I'm using version 3.01 (32bit) and it installs fine with SoundForge, and I can successfully register my purchased copy with Stereo Tool (w/ no beeps). Obviously I've tried toggling it on under the Processing section and tried by bypass on the VST and in the plugn manager. And I've fiddled with every other dial that I can find. But it doesn't seem to have any effect at all. The MP3 options does a very light bit -- barely perceptible -- mostly is seems to just lower the volume.

I can notice a slight difference with Natural Dynamics but never any change in the perceived distortion. The display identified red areas that should be declipped on the right, and clean wave forms on the left; but no changes ether when previewing or processing.

Any suggestions much appreciated!

I'm confused. You have Stereo Tool working but choose to use the old stand-alone PD plugin from 2017? Is there a reason you aren't using the modern Stereo Tool plugin instead?

I have a feeling it's working if you're seeing the red clipping detection on the left. It's perhaps not decreasing all the distortion because it's not hard digital clipping? If I'm not mistaken, are various forms of signal clipping/limiting that don't declip the same. Music by JPEGMAFIA for example uses harsh clipping that can be vastly improved with the declipper, whereas Baroness uses a different type of clipping distortion that mangles the waveform in an undeclippable way.

Thx for the reply. I'm not using Stereo Tool because I'm not desiring or needing all the extra functionality such as for FM processing. I'm just looking for a VST plugin to remove distortion, exactly like the impressive demo on the page:

Yeah, it's strange because, as you say, the waveform display shows red areas that are being treated, but no matter what I do I can't hear a difference. At first I thought perhaps the music was actually being treated but I wasn't hearing the improvement, but I've tried it on several samples w/ no differnce, plus I can never seem to set the parameters so that too much effect is being applied. This leads me to believe that for some reason nothing is being applied.

I would prefer to use PerfectDeclipper, if I can get it to work on my box; but if you know other VST options I would be willing to try them.

Interesting. I still recommend using the latest version of Stereo Tool since it has the updated GUI and is actively being supported. I also don't use FM processing, or any of that technical signal stuff, and just desire clean audio.

Could it be that you're running the declipper on something already at 0dB peak without gain reduction, resulting in still distorted audio?

There's one way that I know for certain how to check whether the declipping is being applied: load up something limited or clipped and lower it about -12dB in gain before running it through the declipper and looking at the resulting waveform. If it's got hills and valleys or peaks above -12dB, it's working.
