Post subject:  Crackle on quiet songs. Old Multiband Compressor... HELP!

Hi there,
I'm working with the old multiband compressor within my Stereo Tool preset to have a, yes how to say, flow in the music. It's hard to explain, but so far it sounds much more pleasant than using the "new" or "normal" multiband compressor (MB1). Only unfortunately, especially with the "quieter" songs, a very annoying and unbearable crackling is noticeable.

Here are 2 examples: With Old Multiband Compressor

So let's put it this way: A certain crackling in muffled music pieces is already present from the song. But the AGC and the Old MB pulls this, I think, again in the height. Just wondering how other radio stations(on the web) have solved this. Maybe someone can give me some good advice on this problem. :D

MfG
Florian :)

I am not an audio pro by any stretch of the imagination, so a huge YMMV here....

My initial thought is maybe turn on the noise gate if not already and see how far you have to push the total noise level setting to clean up the distortion, then once the distortion diminishes perhaps back down the total level and instead tweak the per band settings to your desired level.

i can barely hear it on the 480.04 KB file and i dont hear it at all on the 303.79 KB file, this is playing your file through stereotool used as a sound processor for my PC sound.
i had to enable pre-emphasis just to barely hear it.

I have the solution for the cracking. If you set the stereo gain (see Picture 1) too high, unwanted noises (in this case the crackling) are radically amplified. Because I set the stereo phase difference remover in the Advanced Clipper, the crackling was heard in the middle. So if you don't want to have a radical crackling now, you should use and adjust the Stereo Strength Boost control with conscious. :)
